I've shot some photos of our local North Texas SC soccer club for the About Mansfield news site over the past couple of months. I decided to do one post with pics from several games rather than posting every week. If you live in the Mansfield/Arlington/Grand Prairie area of the DFW metroplex, I recommend catching a game at the new Texas Health Mansfield Stadium. It's a great venue, and the games are a blast. Colorado Dragon Boat Races & Festival, Aug. 29, 2026. These dragon boats can fit 18-20 people, and they move quickly and smoothly. I wish I'd had a kayak to get closer pictures, but it was a great competition to photograph regardless. The festival also had tons of food booths/trucks and demonstrations of martial arts and dancing.

Paddlers from 50 countries competed this week in the ICF Canoe Slalom World Championships in Oklahoma City at the same venue - Riversport OKC - that will host the canoe slalom in the 2028 Summer Olympics. I spent some of Friday and Saturday enduring the sweltering heat and humidity to photograph this incredible competition. Winners of the various categories were from Spain, Czechia and Australia.

I haven't posted many wildlife photos here of late, so here's a fresh start. Holly and I just wrapped up an 11-day, sea-and-land cruise in Alaska, and we saw a great range of wildlife. I wasn't always able to get as close as I wanted or the angle that I wanted because I was either on the ship or I was stuck in a tour bus trying to shoot through windows (which makes focusing shots nearly impossible). The Texas Elite Spartans won their second consecutive WNFC championship 34-14 over the San Diego Rebellion at the Star in Frisco on Sunday. As a field-level witness, I can tell you that these ladies mean business. Founded in 2019, the Women's National Football Conference is a 16-team league that plays an eight-game season.

Dallas Symphony Orchestra Cup at Prestonwood Polo Club north of Dallas, June 13, 2026. I will admit that I don't know squat about polo, but I learned several interesting details at Prestonwood. First, professional riders bring as many as 8-10 horses to a match and switch them out nearly every chukker (period). Next, Argentina is the dominant world power in polo. Third, those mallets are highly flexible - they bend as much if not more than golf clubs.

The Bolder Boulder 10K is hard to adequately describe. You just have to attend or participate to understand the event's scope and energy. Suffice to say, the race logged 47,500 finishers from all 50 states and 25 countries yesterday. The weather was great, the runners were hyped, the costumes were creative and the vibe was incredible.

Windjammer Track Classic at Englewood High School in, you guessed it, Englewood, CO., on May 9. Track and field is a blast for photographers because it offers so much variety - runners, throwers, jumpers, etc. Colorado high school athletes often use this meet as a tune up for the state meet the next weekend. The Windjammer is nostalgic for me; I competed in this meet as a Columbine High senior in 1990 (I made it to the second round in discus, but I didn't medal).
