March 27, 2001. I was nine years old, alone in my bedroom, writing in my diary about my dreams of one day being an artist. I work so hard and create art for so many important and personal reasons... a big reason being for that once little girl, alone in her bedroom with purple walls and stenciled butterflies, gripping tightly to big dreams. I've never known a life without having a deep, intrinsic, and sometimes a desperate, need to create.
As I approach the opening of my exhibition of analog collages at Arts For Vets, I am full of gratitude. 🫶
Little Emma, you always were an artist! I look for you in everything, and I find you in it all. My dreaming and childlike wonder has never left, despite the reality of our society so often trying to silence it. I do so much of this for you. 🦋💗
Opening reception is tomorrow!
