Enjoyed some desert sunshine for a bit with my favorite person. ❤️

We’re still wandering around in Gracie Lou from time to time!

Spent last month with some of our most favorite travelers ! Started in the snow of Mt. Shasta, then down to Pinnacles National Park. We spent 10 days hanging out with all the wild turkeys hiding out before Thanksgiving and hiking amazing trails. Then we finally made it to SEKI, Sequoia and Kings Canyon National Parks, to hug some very BIG trees and climb a very BIG rock! We’ve been boondocking outside of Joshua Tree for nearly two weeks now and we did some great hikes! Ladder Canyon, if you’re in the area, is a must! It’s so cool!

Never mind the sunshine and the fantastic hiking opportunities and all the cool sights, we will mostly miss the company! Shared meals, sharing shows & stories, playing games and lots of laughter - Teri & John, we’ll miss you the most! Enjoy your winter adventures!

Said our sad goodbyes to Teri & John so we could head home for the holidays!

It’s kind of lovely how this silver home on wheels can connect us with 𝗽𝗲𝗼𝗽𝗹𝗲 and with 𝗻𝗮𝘁𝘂𝗿𝗲!⁣

Got a chance to moochdock with 𝘰𝘭𝘥 (☺️) friends in the Boise area…it’s been awhile since we were raising babies across the street from one another but the easy, familiar 𝗳𝗿𝗶𝗲𝗻𝗱𝘀𝗵𝗶𝗽 feels like coming home. ⁣

And then we surprised 3 of our 𝗴𝗿𝗮𝗻𝗱𝗸𝗶𝗱𝘀 on their last day of school! So much fun to pull off that surprise! And then spent a week with them, playing games, going on walks & to their activities, just hanging out, lovin’ on them. ❤️⁣

Next stop was 𝘀𝗻𝗼𝘄! We overnighted in a sno-park in the mountains and Journey (🐾) was delighted! And we are pretty happy to be in the woods and on the road again!⁣

Hi y’all! 👋🏼 It’s been a minute! We 𝘮𝘪𝘴𝘴 our traveling friends!⁣

We are making our way around the 𝗣𝗡𝗪 this beautiful spring to see some sights & visit some of our favorite people…and we have a new addition to our home we’d love to introduce you to - 𝗝𝗼𝘂𝗿𝗻𝗲𝘆! 🐾 ⁣

Journey (she’s a mini-Bernese!) is nearly a year old now…and she’s made our sticks ‘n bricks home complete. This is her first trailering adventure and, as per her gentle & go-with-the-flow personality (as well as her name), she has easily taken to the Journey! ⁣

First stop on our path was one of our favorite little towns, 𝗦𝗶𝘀𝘁𝗲𝗿𝘀, Oregon. We love the little city campground for its close proximity to town…and we spent our first morning enjoying a walk to the iconic (& for me sentimental) Sisters Bakery (trust me when I say ‘get the 𝘢𝘱𝘱𝘭𝘦 𝘧𝘳𝘪𝘵𝘵𝘦𝘳!’). There are lots of little shops, a surprisingly plentiful selection of antique stores, a couple of great bookstores, restaurants for nearly every appetite and a yummy smokehouse for fresh jerky. Journey got a lots of head pats and compliments wandering through the town and its parks. We spent the next few nights just outside of town where there are plenty of 𝗯𝗼𝗼𝗻𝗱𝗼𝗰𝗸𝗶𝗻𝗴 opportunities with lots of room to spread out and enjoy these beautiful sunshiny days!⁣

As for Mike & I, & Gracie Lou, we are 𝗵𝗮𝗽𝗽𝘆 to be on the road again!

Re-posting this photo & quote today…because it’s 𝗘𝗮𝗿𝘁𝗵 𝗗𝗮𝘆 and I was thinking about all of you wanderers! 🌎 ⁣

I took this drone photo, years ago, while hanging out in my very favorite place, the Oregon Coast. Sunsets, especially on a vast horizon, have a way of quieting the noise, making me feel small and yet connected to something 𝘁𝗿𝗲𝗺𝗲𝗻𝗱𝗼𝘂𝘀 at the same time. ⁣

And, because I’m not nearly as eloquent, I share the sentiments of 𝗖𝗮𝗿𝗹 𝗦𝗮𝗴𝗮𝗻...⁣

“Look again at that 𝗱𝗼𝘁. That’s here. That’s home. That’s us. On it everyone you love, everyone you know, everyone you ever heard of, 𝗲𝘃𝗲𝗿𝘆 𝗵𝘂𝗺𝗮𝗻 𝗯𝗲𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝘄𝗵𝗼 𝗲𝘃𝗲𝗿 𝘄𝗮𝘀, lived out their lives. ⁣

The aggregate of our 𝗷𝗼𝘆 and 𝘀𝘂𝗳𝗳𝗲𝗿𝗶𝗻𝗴, thousands of confident religions, ideologies, and economic doctrines, every hunter and forager, every 𝗵𝗲𝗿𝗼 and coward, every creator and destroyer of civilization, every king and peasant, every young couple in 𝗹𝗼𝘃𝗲, every mother and father, hopeful child, inventor and 𝗲𝘅𝗽𝗹𝗼𝗿𝗲𝗿, every teacher of morals, every corrupt politician, every “superstar,” every “supreme leader,” every saint and sinner in the history of our species lived there - on a mote of dust 𝘴𝘶𝘴𝘱𝘦𝘯𝘥𝘦𝘥 in a 𝘀𝘂𝗻𝗯𝗲𝗮𝗺.”⁣

What an incredible realization! ⁣

I hope you all, wherever you are, put your feet in the sand or grass or water or dirt today and feel this connectedness to this 𝗽𝗹𝗮𝗻𝗲𝘁 and one another. 𝗛𝗮𝗽𝗽𝘆 𝗘𝗮𝗿𝘁𝗵 𝗗𝗮𝘆!

Yes, we still travel with Gracie Lou! She’s just been a little neglected with all of this HEAT! Not even the coast or the mountains have been cool! 🌞

Getting excited for an Autumn trip and hopefully cooler temps with no fires! 🤞🏼 We would happily take boondocking recommendations for northern Colorado, SD & WY! (Preferably as scenic as this Sno-Park in OR!)

We celebrated my 𝘽𝙄𝙂 birthday at our favorite beach with all of our favorite humans! ⁣

The family spoiled me with a 𝘴𝘶𝘳𝘱𝘳𝘪𝘴𝘦 party, thoughtful homemade cards, an amazing 𝘀𝗽𝗮 treatment and a family 𝗽𝗵𝗼𝘁𝗼 𝘀𝗵𝗼𝗼𝘁 with an incredible Portland-based photographer ! ⁣

We just got the pictures back today and I haven’t moved away from the computer screen for very long, 𝘀𝘄𝗼𝗼𝗻𝗶𝗻𝗴 over each photo! I absolutely love the way photographs preserve these precious memories…the way I can hear the giggles of the kids and feel the warmth in the air… And Aaron was amazing at capturing all of it! ⁣

I couldn’t ask for more than doing life with this man and this family. ❤️

I don’t think I’ll ever 𝘯𝘰𝘵 hear 𝗹𝗮𝘂𝗴𝗵𝘁𝗲𝗿 when I look at this picture! And that’s the way it should be! ⁣

Imagine, if you can, 5 of us (adults…practically senior citizens!) hiking the dunes (after we sledded the dunes!) at White Sands National Park together until we noticed our shadows and decided to make shadow art! It didn’t take much convincing, but there was a lot of laughing, until we were all contorting ourselves to spell out 𝗟•𝗢•𝗩•𝗘! ⁣

We parted ways with our 𝘁𝗿𝗮𝘃𝗲𝗹𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗳𝗮𝗺𝗶𝗹𝘆 yesterday, after over a month of sight seeing, park hopping, alien watching, hiking, shared dinners and lots of ice cream…and we will miss them so much! ⁣

We’ll remember all the 𝗹𝗮𝘂𝗴𝗵𝘀 though! And that’s the way it should be!

We’re still ‘here’! We’ve been making our way around 𝗡𝗲𝘄 𝗠𝗲𝘅𝗶𝗰𝗼 with a few of our favorite people!⁣

From cool 𝗰𝗮𝘃𝗲 dwellings to hundreds of sandhill 𝗰𝗿𝗮𝗻𝗲𝘀, bizarre 𝗮𝗹𝗶𝗲𝗻𝘀 to beautiful mountain 𝘀𝗻𝗼𝘄, incredible 𝗰𝗮𝘃𝗲𝗿𝗻𝘀 to trembling 𝗲𝗮𝗿𝘁𝗵𝗾𝘂𝗮𝗸𝗲𝘀, and, of course, from laundromats to dump stations…we are having a 𝗴𝗿𝗲𝗮𝘁 time!⁣

Day 2!

This morning we decided to sleep a little longer, have an extra cup of coffee and see what the view of the balloon fiesta’s full ascension looked like from Gracie Lou’s vantage point! Let me say, the coveted Airstream rally (get it by entering the lottery drawing) enjoys a very primo spot on the south side!

As the balloons launched this morning (after a bit of weather delay), they generally cruised right overhead! Even better, many of them then caught the infamous box winds which pushes them north, back over our heads (at a higher elevation)! It was pretty fun to watch the Albuquerque box work! And awesome to see these colorful & creative balloons fly!

My favorite part, sharing it on FaceTime with our daughters and their kids! 🥹

We spent a wonderful portion of the afternoon with Dave & Jen, , at their Airstream, loving on their cats and enjoying their sweet space! It’s always fun to see how other people “live”…especially when the shell (a 30’ Airstream RBQ International) is exactly the same!

The fireworks show exploded into the sky tonight even though the winds have been relentless and we thought surely it’d be canceled. It was a great showcase of lights & colors!

Tomorrow…well, we will figure that out tomorrow!

Day 1 done! 🎈

The weather didn’t quite cooperate for the late afternoon & evening shows, but the morning was pretty awesome!

Woke up early to be on the field for the morning glow and it was well worth the early hour & the chill in the air! It’s so cool to see those first balloons rise into the dawn light! (Keep an eye on our stories for photos & videos!)

As balloons all over the field began inflating and launching we made our way back to the Airstream in time to watch the Albuquerque box do it’s thing (though it was a bit more triangular today!)!

We spent much of the afternoon visiting with new {in real life} friends (though our Instagram friendship goes way back!), , Dave & Jen! We’ve become so familiar on IG that it felt like seeing old friends!

The Albuquerque winds picked up in the evening so many of the events planned were postponed or canceled so we had a very low key evening. Now, I’ve gotta get some sleep before the alarm clock for tomorrow’s dawn patrol goes off!
