I’ve gotten to a point in my career where I feel confident in making any weather situation work. And that’s not to sound cocky or full of myself. I’ve realized that after enough experiences in different forecasts (especially extreme situations in Alaska), there really is a unique opportunity to document love and memorable beauty in each scenario. Rain feels romantic, wind brings cinematic drama, falling snow is magical… you get the picture. It’s less “yeah I can do anything” and more anything can be beautiful, especially if you don’t fight it.

Ironically, the trickiest one for me has always been direct sunlight. Sure, it FEELS great. But boy does it keep me on my toes with location scouting, constantly switching camera settings and making sure I don’t lose details in the process. As I’ve grown and become more comfortable with my ole pal the sun, I’ve started to look forward to weddings with clear skies and bright light- like this one.

Nico and Alan are people who feel like human sunshine, so it stands to reason that on their wedding day, the skies wanted to mirror that. I really couldn’t have imagined any other type of weather scenario that could have fit their love story better. Those who bore witness to it were very lucky to bask in their warmth and light, and I’m so grateful to have been the one they chose to document it.

finding myself unexpectedly leaving on a cross-country journey again, only this time for a very different reason.

I will be out of the office for the rest of the week spending time with my family and loved ones as we begin our path down a stretch of grief that is both heartbreaking and confusing. I appreciate your patience with my inquiry responses and album deliveries at this time. I will get back to work as soon as I’m home.

I knew going into this wedding that it was going to be beautiful but I can honestly say it still caught me by surprise. Having never experienced an east coast summer (everything I know is from “The Summer I Turned Pretty 😂), nothing could’ve prepared me for just how magical it was. Of course, a huge part of that had everything to do with the PEOPLE! Julia and Bryan are all about their relationships- family, friends, and loved ones. They crafted a day that would celebrate not only who they were as a couple but also all of the people who had been on their journey with them leading up to this big moment. Each piece of the day truly added to the bigger puzzle of intention: Julia getting ready in the house she grew up in, interfaith messages during the backyard ceremony, seasonal blooms popping off, sweet Nuna running around begging for bites of food and kisses, Bryan’s smile that quite literally never left his face, Julia surprising her mom by wearing her wedding dress during dinner, the food (omg, guys- the food), the music… I could go on and on but this app has a character limit on captions.

In short- this is a wedding I will never forget.

My older sister, my first friend. You showed me unconditional love and support like a second mother without me ever having to ask or expecting any thank yous. You challenge me, encourage me, and really make me think I am capable of being the best version of myself- especially when I don’t believe I am. I love watching you pour that same energy into your children. They are so lucky to have the kind of mother who champions them the way that you do, and I can say that from personal experience. I feel more confident taking risks and betting on myself because of you.

My little sister, my twin soul. The safe space you have created for me in our relationship mirrors that of a mother’s unconditional grace and compassion. No matter what I have going on, you never make me feel like it’s too much or too silly. I can call you when I am at my absolute worst and you listen and tell me it will be okay.
I love watching you create that same haven for your children. They are so lucky to have the kind of mother who will never ridicule them or make them feel embarrassed to ask for help or admit their mistakes. I have more empathy and understanding for others because of you.

My momma. The one who invited me into this world, along with the other two incredible women I’ve written about above. The older I get the more I realize just how special it is to have you as my mother. Through no accomplishment or work on my own I was given the gift of being raised by someone who is a world changer. And by that I mean you change everyone around you. Anyone you come in contact with is better because of it. You bring joy, light, and celebration to each situation. You give mercy freely, spend the time and energy to work on yourself, and (in the last few years especially) have fought hard against all of your inner demons and somehow still managed to come out on the other side believing that people can change for the better when given the chance- including yourself. I am able to seek out hope and practice humility in my daily life because of you.

The five of us spent what felt like the first day of spring soaking up the sunshine in Whittier, first on the docks by Tanner’s boat and then getting chased by the tide in Shotgun Cove. It was such a nice morning hanging out and playing with the dogs! I’m so excited for their wedding this fall ✨
