🌄 Saturday Views

Shot this on the DJI Mini 3 Pro — wild what a little drone can pull off.
The Smokies just sit there looking epic, no filter needed.
Sometimes the best settings are: take off → point camera → let nature show off.

Some folks dream of skyscrapers.
Others? They dream of a stretch of country road, a few acres to call their own, and neighbors you actually know by name. 🚜🌾

This shot from Rutledge, TN, shows what drone photography does best — giving buyers a clear sense of layout, acreage, and access all in one frame.

Because sometimes the view from above tells the real story… and sometimes it just proves you really can see the neighbor’s house from here. 😉

“Lighting Direction: Why It Makes or Breaks a Photo”

Ever wonder why some photos look flat while others seem alive?
It usually comes down to the direction of light.

Front Light: Safe, evenly lit, but often flat. Great for accuracy, but not always for mood.

Side Light: Adds depth and texture. Perfect for showing shape in architecture or bringing dimension to landscapes.

Backlight: Creates silhouettes and rim lighting — dramatic, but tricky to expose correctly.

Top/Overhead Light: Common at midday, but harsh. Works best if you meter carefully for the highlights to avoid blown-out areas.

👉 Quick Metering Tip: Don’t just trust your camera’s evaluative mode. When working with strong directional light, spot meter on your subject’s midtones (not the brightest highlight or darkest shadow). This helps balance exposure so you keep detail where it matters most.

The secret isn’t just finding light, it’s learning how to meter and use it. Move your position, shift your subject, or wait for the right moment — the direction of light changes the mood more than your camera ever could.

Life looks a little different when you’ve got a view like this.
Lakefront living, rolling farmland, and the kind of peace you can’t find in the city.

This shot was taken with my Autel EVO II Pro V3 — one of my favorite tools for capturing how a neighborhood really feels from above.

Would you trade your traffic jams for mornings like this?

A bear, a bird, and a book walk into a cabin… 🐻🐦📖
Not sure how the story ends, but it makes a solid photo. Sometimes it’s the small details that tell the bigger story of a place — and this one says, “cozy, but make it interesting.”

Sometimes the best photos happen when you aren’t planning them.
Driving back from visiting family in Louisiana on Wednesday, we passed by Chilhowee Lake and the view stopped me in my tracks—well, technically, I stayed in the car, but my camera roll didn’t. 📸 Taken right through the car window with my phone, it’s a good reminder that you don’t always need perfect conditions or your pro gear to capture something worth keeping.

📸 Photography Tip: Read the Light Like a Map

Light isn’t just “bright” or “dim” — it has direction, quality, and color temperature, and understanding all three can make or break a shot.

1️⃣ Direction – Where is the light coming from?

Front light (behind you) is great for detail and accuracy.

Side light adds depth and texture.

Back light can create drama, silhouettes, or rim lighting — but it’s trickier to expose.

2️⃣ Quality – How soft or hard is the light?

Soft light (cloudy days, shaded areas) wraps around subjects and minimizes harsh shadows.

Hard light (direct midday sun) creates strong contrast and deep shadows — great for certain textures but less forgiving on skin tones.

3️⃣ Color Temperature – How warm or cool is the light?

Early morning/late evening light is warmer and golden.

Midday light tends to be neutral to cool.

Indoor lights often mix warm tungsten and cool daylight — watch for color casts.

📍Pro Tip: Learn to read all three at a glance before you shoot. The more you predict how light will hit your subject, the less you’ll rely on fixing it in post.

Nothing like a clean shoreline and a full dock to wrap the week.
Shot this over Cherokee Lake with the Autel EVO II Pro V3 — crisp air, calm water, and just the right light to make that roofline gleam.

This one's all about balance: geometry, reflection, and a little post-processing magic to bring it all home.

🟨 Thursday Tip: Shoot the Corners
Before you hit the shutter, check the corners of your frame.
That’s where the clutter hides.
That’s where the coffee mug you forgot about lives.
That’s where your shot either looks polished — or just okay.

Clean frames = clean edits.
Shoot smarter.

Proof that elevation = elegance. 🛩️
Drone shots don’t just show the property — they show why someone wants to be there.
This one was shot with my DJI Mini 3 Pro overlooking the hills around Gatlinburg — and yes, it still amazes me what this little drone can do.

Some rooms just get it right. 🌞
Light-filled. Inviting. Relaxed.
Whether it's morning coffee or evening TV, this sunroom gives the kind of comfort buyers (and photographers) fall for fast.

Behind the Lens
They say do what you love… so I stood in a refreshingly cold river with a camera and called it “fun.” 😎📸

The first pic? Caught mid-wade by my fiancée.
The second? Totally worth it.

Not pictured: slipping on a rock and pretending it was part of the creative process.

Would you have stood in that water for the shot?
