There just might be a supercell in southern Kansas on Thursday afternoon/evening!👀

The supercell composite parameter shown here is close to maxed out around Wichita at 5pm on Thursday.

Fun chase yesterday but a little disappointing after the start looked very promising. I latched on to the eastern most supercell west of McCook, NE and it was a beast. It pretty quickly was compromised by too much hail and cold air. Later it because a dust eater and was pulling in so much dust that you couldn’t see in front of it or under it. It was one of the more challenging and spooky storms I’ve ever chased. Unclear if I really saw the tornado or two that occurred as visibility was so poor.

Just spent the last 20 minutes “detailing” my 4Runner after all the dust yesterday. There were piles of mud underneath from the rain washing dirt off.

Those Kansas roads and fields are DUSTY and need rain.

1 year ago today was my ALL-TIME #1 BEST CAREER CHASE in North Dakota on 6/20/2025.

I began the day in Sioux Falls and initially didn’t know if storms would form in ND so drove 8 hours across the Dakotas to the MT/ND state line and then realized that storms were going to fire back east so dove 4 hours back to Jamestown, ND.

I then witnessed the most insane 4 hours of my life! I would go on to see about 10 tornadoes from 8:30pm to almost midnight, including the powerful Spiritwood EF-3 and the Enderlin EF-5 (the first such EF-5 in over 12 years).

It finally ended around midnight and I decided to drive about an hour back to Jamestown, ND. It was the hardest drive of my life as a sting jet/MCV had developed and had winds of about 100mph I was driving into. It was literally pushing the front end of my car down, causing all my driver safety lights to flash and beep. I finally arrived in Jamestown to no power in the city and only 10 miles of gas left. No power or A/C in the hotel but just crashed in the dark room and was stuck in town until about noon when power came back to get gas.

Yesterday was a fun chase day in central MN north of the twin cities. Never been up there before but I liked the environment. I left MSP at halftime of the USA match and blasted north. Shortly after arriving, the supercell really started rotating and went tornado warned. It was very close on 2-3 occasions to producing, but it was 59° on my car so that was just too cold to get it done.
