Located on historic Tidewater Trail, and close to where I live, there is never I time drive by here and I wish there was a shopping center or an AI Date Center built on this historic 200+ acre property.

It is preserved forever. The Slaughter Pen Farm battlefield.

The First Day at Chancellorsville (May 1, 1863) was where the opening clashes of the Battle of Chancellorsville in the American Civil War was fought, primarily along the Orange Turnpike and Orange Plank Road in the Wilderness area of Spotsylvania County, Virginia.

Its key significance lies in a pivotal moment that shaped the entire battle: Union General Joseph Ho**er executed a brilliant flanking maneuver to position a large force (over 70,000 men) behind Confederate General Robert E. Lee's lines, catching the Confederates off guard. However, after initial skirmishing with Confederate forces (including elements under Stonewall Jackson), Ho**er unexpectedly ordered his troops to withdraw from open ground back into defensive positions around the Chancellorsville crossroads in the dense Wilderness.

This surrendered the initiative to Lee, enabling Lee's audacious decision to divide his smaller army and launch the famous flanking attack on May 2.The first day's events thus represent a critical turning point—Ho**er's caution transformed a promising Union offensive into the setup for Lee's greatest victory (despite heavy costs, including Jackson's later mortal wounding).

The preserved site, 200 acres, was saved from development through preservation efforts, and highlights the tactical decisions that defined one of the war's most renowned campaigns
