I want to make you look perfect.

But more than that, I want you to look like you.

I think somewhere along the way motherhood photography got this idea that becoming a mom means we all suddenly become the same woman.

Flowy dress. Perfect hair. Soft smiles. Everyone looking lovingly at each other.

And listen, if that’s you—I’m here for it.

But if it’s not? I’m also interested in that.

Wear the jeans. Show the tattoos. Bring the messy hair and the wild children. Let them climb all over you. Let yourself take up some space in the picture.

You don’t have to become some prettier, softer, more polished version of yourself just because you’re having photos with your children.

I want to photograph the woman they actually know.

Because you being their mom is the beautiful part.

I’ll never be the cheapest photographer.

And truthfully, I stopped wanting to be a long time ago.

Because cheap requires volume I can’t compete with.

It requires fitting more people into the calendar, moving faster, spending less time on each gallery and constantly chasing the next booking.

And somewhere along the way I realized that is the exact opposite of how I want to do this.

I want to remember your kids’ names.

I want time to notice that tiny expression your daughter makes that looks exactly like you.

I want to spend entirely too long deciding between two almost identical black and whites because one of them just feels better.

I want to help you figure out what to wear. I want to answer the questions. I want to make the album. I want to care about where these photographs end up after I send the gallery.

I don’t want to photograph as many people as humanly possible.

I want to photograph my people really freaking well.

And building a business that gives me the space to do that means I probably won’t ever be the least expensive option.

I’m really okay with that.

Because I never wanted White Moth to be the place you chose because it was the cheapest.

I want it to be the place you chose because you wanted me.

I think tonight I’m just really grateful this little business has grown up with me.

It has existed through so many versions of my life.

Different names. Different houses. Different cameras. Different ideas of what I thought success was supposed to look like.

And somehow, all these years later, I’m still here.

Still getting excited when the light is good.
Still staying up too late thinking about photographs.
Still finding new things I want to create.
Still convinced there’s another version of this work I haven’t even made yet.

I think that’s the cool thing about doing something for a long time.

You don’t have to become less excited about it.

You just get better at knowing what’s actually worth being excited about.

Motherhood, but make it editorial.

Beautiful light. Strong silhouettes. Movement that feels a little undone.

Romantic without being overly sweet.
Fashion-forward without losing the feeling.
The kind of photographs that could live in the pages of a magazine, but still feel unmistakably like you.

Because motherhood doesn’t have to be photographed one way.

It can be soft.
It can be bold.
It can have a little edge.

There is art in the way you exist.
