In@my wanderings in Downtown today, I ran across the Sundance Square Neon Graveyard. These are some of the signs that have been removed from their buildings. Others have their backs turned to the street.

On Wednesday evening, I had a chance to tour Downtown Cowtown at the Isis with Historic Fort Worth, Inc. The marquee was illuminated and I took a number of photographs inside and outside. I thought I would share some of these with everyone. I also want to thank Jeffrey Smith and his wife Debbie for hosting us.

Sunshine Cumberland Presbyterian Church has been added to Architecture in Fort Worth. This small church was built for Our Mother of Mercy Catholic Church in 1929. The brick building features a gabled roof with a corner bell tower with an open belfry. The brick facade features recessed stucco panels with paired arched windows. In 1931, the congregation built a church school across and down Verbena St. That building has now been integrated into the Ella Mae Gratts Shamblee Branch Library. In 1955, the church building was sold to Sunshine Cumberland Presbyterian Church. Photograph provided by Rene Gomez.

The New Isis Theater, located at 2301 N. Main St. opened on March 27, 1936, replacing the 1914 Isis Theater, which burned in 1935. Fort Worth Architect L.B. Weinmann designed the 1914 building. In 1988, the theater closed, and it has been vacant until it was purchased and restored by Jeffrey Smith. Arthur Weinman, the grandson of the original architect, was responsible for the restoration project. That was completed earlier this year, and now the page has been updated on the website. I'm providing "Before" and "After" photographs.

Has anyone ever explored Evans Avenue? The street is loaded with historic buildings. One of which is the Morningside Elementary School. It opened in 1937 and was designed by Earl T. Glasgow. He also designed the first addition to the building in 1948. The building features red brick and a gabeled roof with red flat clay tile. The design uses Tudor Revival elements and even features a Tudor arch over its main entrance. The school was landscaped with a WPA project, and some of those elements remain on the south side of the building. Photograph provided by Rene Gomez.

I want apologize again for mislabeling my last skyline photograph location on Schwartz Ave. & NE 29th. I have lived in Fort Worth all of my life and it is very rare that I will get a location incorrect. The Loraine street sign was in the photograph and I guess that's where my mind went astray. I do have one more photo to share with everyone from one of my favorite locations to see the city. It's on Lawther Drive in River Oaks. You can get an entire view of Downtown, the Southside, and the Westside. I should have had my larger lens when I was there to crop closer to the skyline, but I will share what I took that day.
