On Thursday, I attended a presentation by the lead researcher of a study about the historical evidence of moose in Colorado and the southern Rocky Mountains. The professor, who works at CU - Boulder, had some interesting conclusions about the information he uncovered. His study was released this week. I had my second night tour of the season last night. There was a lot of airglow, that green glow (and a little pink too) caused by the light of excited atoms high in Earth’s atmosphere. Usually I am not a fan of having this in shots, but I decided to play with it in this edit to create something different for this location in Rocky Mountain National Park. Otherwise, the conditions were perfect – no clouds, warm temps and complete stillness. Lovely evening. I am still booking tours for this summer. The week before and the week after the new moon are the best times.

Hard to believe this photo was taken less than a month ago. Nearly a foot fell in this second storm of May that blanketed Estes Park and Rocky Mountain National Park. There were so many fun photo opportunities to capture of the winter and spring seasons colliding that morning. This was a red-tailed hawk taking off in Rocky Mountain National Park.
