Can I let you in on a secret?

Almost every family who books with me tells me one of these things first.

“My kids are wild.”
“I need to lose weight.”
“I’m awkward in front of the camera.”
“We should probably wait until next year.”

And honestly? I get it.

As a mom, I know how easy it is to put yourself at the bottom of the list. To tell yourself you’ll do family photos when life feels less chaotic, when the house is cleaner, when you’ve lost the weight, when the kids are older…

But the thing is, life is happening right now.

Last December, I tried hosting Christmas Tree Farm Minis at a farm near Green Bay. I had only been charging for my photography for a few months, and I wanted to use the sessions to give back. I let the farm know that a portion of the proceeds would be donated to an organization helping families facing the loss of SNAP benefits, and that I would also be collecting clothing donations for homeless LGBTQIA+ youth.

After learning that, they told me I would no longer be welcome on their property and that they “hoped I found Jesus.”

A lot can change in a year.

Since then, I’ve had the privilege of working with venues and small businesses that don’t just support my work, they support people. I’ve worked with a farm near Fond du Lac that helps provide food to members of our community. I’ve partnered with a flower farmer near Appleton that isn’t afraid to speak up for what she believes in. I’ve hosted sessions at a woman and LGBTQIA+ owned horse ranch in Racine.

The truth is, where we spend our money matters. Who we support matters.

I want every person who steps in front of my camera to know they are welcome here. Regardless of who you are, who you love, your background, your family, or your story. You deserve to be treated with dignity, kindness, and respect.

We’re stronger when we show up for each other.

Have I ever said how much I love my clients? I don’t think I say it enough. These two are so amazing, they even went into the cold water of Lake Michigan so I could get the shot I wanted 😭😂 this session is so special, I can’t wait to dig into these and edit the rest 😍
