Somewhere in every family session there's a moment when the formal poses run out and somebody ends up on the floor. This time it was dad, and the boys wasted zero seconds climbing aboard.

Here's the thing: we could have stopped them. Straightened everyone up, fixed the collars, gone back to the plan. But the plan was never the point. Twenty years from now, nobody in this family is going to reach for the photo where everyone stood still. They're going to reach for this one, the one where dad became furniture and the boys couldn't believe their luck.

Miss S showed up with the wardrobe, the aesthetic, and absolutely zero fear of looking silly in front of a camera, which is honestly the whole recipe.

She dances at a local arts high school and it shows in every frame. Give her a beam of light in an old warehouse or a patch of golden grass at sunset and she just knows where her hands go. We got the flannel, the band tee, the rock hands, and one frame of pure unfiltered attitude that we are going to be thinking about for a long time.

She wants to be a teacher. Whichever classroom gets her someday is extremely lucky, because that combination of presence and warmth does not come around often.

Nothing is stopping this one.

A brought two things to her session that told us everything: the team plaque from a season that ended on a national floor, and a pair of Minnie ears with her name in gold glitter.
One is the achievement. The other is the memory. The plaque says her team earned their place among the best in the country. The ears say they did it at Disney, together, and it was fun.

Years from now the placement numbers might get fuzzy. The ears won't. We made sure both made it into the frame.
