Passing the Love Hosts Silent Auction and Ice Cream Social

Members of the community gathered at Passing the Love Ministry for the nonprofit’s first-ever Silent Auction and Ice Cream Social, an event designed to raise funds and support the ministry’s ongoing mission of helping local families in need.

Held on June 13th, the event featured a variety of unique items available through the silent auction, many of which were generously donated by local businesses and community members. Among the items up for bid were handmade comforters, crocheted lap blankets, canvas artwork, an ice cream maker, Longaberger baskets, Glenwood Foods and Windy Knoll gift cards, and a handcrafted wooden American flag plaque. The plaque, made from locally sourced trees in Shippensburg, featured hand-carved and wood-burned details, making it one of the event’s standout pieces.

Visitors also enjoyed soft-serve vanilla ice cream and brownie sundaes while browsing the auction items and learning more about the ministry’s work in the community.

“This event was made possible through the generosity of residents and local businesses that contributed auction items and other donations.” Mrs. Lori mentioned. Passing the Love Ministry relies heavily on community donations and support to continue serving those in need.

The ministry’s story began with a simple blessing box placed in a front yard. The box allowed visitors to take what they needed and leave what they could. As community support grew, so did the ministry’s ability to help others, eventually expanding beyond the blessing box to provide a wider range of assistance.

Today, Passing the Love Ministry offers free household items, clothing, and food to anyone in need. Everything distributed through the ministry is donated by members of the community and provided at no cost to recipients.

Organizers expressed gratitude for the continued support they receive, noting that community generosity has been the driving force behind the ministry’s growth and success. Events like the Silent Auction and Ice Cream Social help ensure the ministry can remain open and continue serving individuals and families throughout the area.

As attendees enjoyed sweet treats and bid on one-of-a-kind items, the event served as a reminder of what can be accomplished when a community comes together to help its neighbors.
