A TREE HAS FALLEN

A tree has fallen,
shhhh…do you hear its weeping?
Listen carefully,
it weeps for humanity.

I should think anger its rebuttal,
but dignity remains undefeated.
Laying prostrate enduring
man who acts in selfishness.

A life taken by human progression,
stripped to nakedness.
carved into submission.
Manipulated into man’s desires.

A tree has fallen,
shhhh…listen closely.
What is it you hear?
It is I, weeping for the trees.
