Country Girl in a Big World A Kansas ranch in the US is where I call home. Teaching my students through travel & learning as I go Traveling the world is an invaluable experience.

Country-Girl-Big-World is an idea I created after traveling out of the country for the first time in 2016. This experience opened my eyes on so many different topics and areas of life. Growing up in the middle of rural America was a unique experience and seeing another part of the world helped me connect what I knew and been taught and influenced growth in me as a person. It is humbling, fulfillin

g, and a necessity for all of us. I learned a greater appreciation for where I am from, but also for all those that I haven't been. I went looking for nature and beauty and along the way I learned how absolutely beautiful the people of the world are. As a teacher, my experiences are immersed within my teaching. I can't talk about biodiversity without sharing my experiences in the Amazon or the everglades of Florida. If we are discussing water density and salinity in the ocean, I bring up my snorkeling experiences near shore and out in the deep ocean. In 2016, I was blessed with a teacher travel grant from Rural School and Community Trust. That was the adventure that took me to the Galapagos, Machu Picchu, and the Amazon rainforest. This opportunity led me to where I am now; I went from teaching 5th grade all subjects to 7th and 8th grade science. My students are taught with as many hands-on opportunities that I can give them. Life at the ranch right now. We are missing out on this action, but it looks like it’s been an interesting week while we are gone.

Cowboys are an independent sport, so we can all celebrate National Day of the Cowboy in our own, unique way.

Fall bulls walked a cattle guard for a swim, it was 116 heat index, so we chose an alternate mount this afternoon!

We finally found out who was behind that insanely close Blue Angels flyby over Pensacola Beach… and y’all ain’t gonna believe this. 😂✈️🇺🇸

Turns out it was two of America’s favorite fighter pilots… including one UNC fighter pilot who apparently still feels the need for speed. 😂

At this rate, these flybys are getting closer and closer.

Everyone listen up! We have a new employee.

She's punctual. She's highly trained. She's an expert at convincing elk to leave the parking lot.

Her name is Blue. She's a Catahoula Leopard Hound and Grand Canyon National Park's new Conservation K-9.

Using controlled barking and herding pressure, Blue helps encourage elk and desert bighorn sheep to return to their natural habitat, reducing wildlife conflicts and helping keep both visitors and wildlife safe.

A round of ah-paws for Blue. 👏🐾
