Donten Photography

Donten Photography Donten Photography is a collection of photos and stories of the places we have visited. I am an amateur photographer and travel/history enthusiast from Florida.

My love of photography began in 2005 with the purchase of my first digital camera. Shortly afterwards, I started an online web gallery to share the photos with friends and family. Since then, the interest in my photography has grown and so has my topics. By 2009, the site expanded to the travel site "Around the World in Pictures", a collection of photos from the places I have visited along with th

e stories behind them. Then in 2011, the site expanded once again with the addition of two new pages "Above the Clouds" and "Touch Em All". The latest expansion was as a result of the demand for my aircraft and baseball photography. What has started as a way to share photos to friends and family has grown to an internet collection of over 12,000 photos nearing 1 million visitors. But the site is still just a hobby for me. I am not a professional nor do I make money off the photos or stories. It is simply a project of mine to help get the photos out there for everyone to enjoy. I really hope you enjoy the site and much as I enjoy bringing it to you. If you enjoy the work, remember to follow us on Facebook, Twitter or by email to be notified when new content is added. Also feel free to comment or add you own personal experiences from your visits. If you have any question or comments, e-mail me at [email protected].

The Swain County Heritage Museum offers an engaging look into the history and culture of western North Carolina. Housed inside the historic 1908 county courthouse in downtown Bryson City, the museum brings to life the stories of Swain County’s people through photographs, artifacts, and interactive exhibits.

Visitors can explore displays that highlight early Appalachian settler life, regional industries like logging and railroads, and major changes brought by the creation of the Great Smoky Mountains National Park and the construction of Fontana Dam. The museum also features recreated spaces such as a one-room schoolhouse and a log cabin porch, along with unique artifacts like an 1887 church organ and tools from early residents.

Free to visit, the museum doubles as a visitor center, making it an ideal first stop for travelers looking to understand the heritage of the Smoky Mountains region while planning their visit.

At Ronald Reagan Washington National Airport, travelers are welcomed by one of the most iconic approaches in aviation, where sweeping views of the Potomac River and the monuments of Washington, D.C. unfold just beyond the runway. Located just minutes from downtown, the airport serves as a true gateway to the nation’s capital, offering a first glimpse of landmarks like the Washington Monument and the U.S. Capitol dome. With its blend of accessibility and unforgettable scenery, arriving at Reagan National feels less like a routine landing and more like an introduction to the history and significance of the United States.

Strolling along Caspersen Beach Park in Venice feels like stepping into one of Florida’s last truly wild shorelines, where windswept dunes, scattered driftwood, and the rhythmic Gulf surf set a peaceful pace. Known as the “Shark Tooth Capital of the World,” the beach invites slow, deliberate walks with eyes scanning the sand for fossilized treasures tucked among shells and pebbles. With fewer crowds and an untamed natural beauty, every step becomes part of a quiet, meditative journey along this rugged stretch of coast.

The historic Venice Train Depot stands as a striking example of Mediterranean Revival architecture, reflecting the planned aesthetic that shaped Venice in the early 20th century. Built in 1927 for the Seaboard Air Line Railway, the depot features stucco walls, graceful arched openings, and a distinctive red clay tile roof that echoes the region’s Italian-inspired design. Its symmetrical layout and elegant detailing evoke a time when rail travel was central to Florida’s growth, making the depot not only a functional landmark but also a beautifully preserved piece of the city’s architectural heritage.

At Oscar Scherer State Park, Lake Osprey offers a calm, scenic escape where glassy waters reflect the surrounding pine flatwoods and open skies. This freshwater lake is a favorite for kayaking, canoeing, and catch-and-release fishing, while its quiet shoreline provides the perfect vantage point for spotting birds—including the park’s namesake osprey soaring overhead. Whether you’re paddling across the gentle surface or relaxing along the bank, Lake Osprey captures the peaceful, natural beauty that defines this hidden gem along Florida’s Gulf Coast.

At Gasparilla Island State Park in Boca Grande, the shoreline becomes a natural treasure trove where the gentle Gulf waves deliver an ever-changing mosaic of seashells. Known for its rich shelling, the beach is often scattered with sand dollars, scallops, and coquinas, especially after a calm tide or passing storm. The soft, white sands and clear waters create the perfect backdrop for beachcombers to wander slowly, eyes down, discovering delicate patterns and colors shaped by the sea. It’s a peaceful, rewarding experience—part relaxation, part treasure hunt—set against the timeless beauty of Florida’s Gulf Coast.

The rebirth of the Blueprint livery by JetBlue Airways captures the airline’s innovative spirit, transforming a modern Airbus into a flying design sketch that celebrates the artistry behind aviation. With its intricate technical markings and blueprint-style lines stretched across a deep blue fuselage, the aircraft feels like a concept brought to life—symbolizing both the airline’s forward-thinking identity and its roots in creative disruption. As JetBlue continues to evolve its fleet and branding, this revived livery stands as a bold reminder that every flight begins with an idea, meticulously drawn and ultimately realized in the skies.

Tucked away in the lush wilderness of Hillsborough River State Park, this serene stretch of the Hillsborough River offers a rare glimpse into one of Florida’s oldest natural landscapes. Here, cypress and oak trees draped in Spanish moss frame a gently flowing river dotted with limestone outcroppings—one of the few places in the state where small Class II rapids can be found. It’s the kind of spot that invites you to slow down, whether you’re hiking the shaded trails, paddling through the current, or simply pausing to take in the quiet beauty. For travelers seeking an authentic escape into Old Florida, this peaceful riverside scene captures the timeless charm and natural diversity that make Hillsborough River State Park a must-visit.
