Hello folks -
I am heartbroken to have to share that on February 4th, my sweet, special boy Maverick had his final vet visit.
Me & him had been fighting his lymphoma for just over a year and were absolutely blessed with the gift of few of any side effects from his chemo therapy. He had a lovely couple of months of true remission from June - August where we made a couple of extended trips to Canada to spend time with dear friends and where he could swim, hike off leash, play with many friends and pretend that he was a farm dog.
Unfortunately, after finishing his second round of a modified 16 week C.H.O.P. protocol in early Jan, along with a scary adverse reaction to elspar - there were few treatment options left for my best guy. The one we went forward with did not seem to impact his lymphoma like I had hoped. Between the changes in his behavior due to the Prednisone he started while on it, along with the lymphoma progression and the way it was beginning to impact his quality of life I stuck to the extremely difficult choice to call it as soon as I felt he was starting to show discomfort. There was no path forward that would have made him more comfortable, or have improved his situation.
I've been full of grief as you can imagine. Maverick is not only my absolute heart dog, but he's also the fourth and last remaining pet I've lost to sudden illness since Nov 2022. (Zetes 5 yrs - Glomerulonephritis, Everett 11 yrs - Intestinal Lymphoma, Diesel 12 yrs - CKD)
I'm grieving him and so much more but in between I try to make progress on my Westminster photos. I think they will bring a little bit of light to what is a very dark time for me right now 💔
