I remembered to take off my solar filter this time.

This composite captures what the sun looks like during a partial eclipse, the diamond ring phase, Bailey's Beads, totality, and then everything in reverse, with an incredibly red sun at the end because it was so close to the horizon.

You can really see how this eclipse flirted with clouds. The top of this cloud I'd been eyeing for a half hour had a U-shape. The first diamond ring, the sun entered the U from the right, stayed in the clearing for 2 minutes of totality, and then the left side of the U swallowed the sun for 20 minutes.

So, so lucky to get these. I'd take clear skies any day, but I love the atmosphere they add.

I sure hope ya'll like eclipse photos.

If totality was two minutes later, we would have missed it after hunting a new location for 4 hours. Clouds swallowed totality as it ended. Still speechless.

Absolutely speechless.

If you're in the path of totality all day for a solar eclipse all day, what do you eat?

On my trips, Michelin star-worth food.

This year, eclipse day is catered by 2022 Best Restaurant in Spain winner Lara Roguez. In 2027, it's multiple Michelin star earner Issac Pulido.

They prepare local dishes with fresh ingredients for lunch, dinner, and snacks. That way, the whole day we can focus on practicing for the eclipse and getting the shot when the moment comes, instead of ordering stale takeout.

Come time for totality, you might find me inside sneaking tastes from the kitchen instead of snapping photos. :)

In 2027, I'm leading a eclipse hunting trip in Spain. But we are going to do so much more.

Namely, the Mediterranean landscape! Europe is filled with historic architecture that has been there so long it feels like part of the landscape itself.

Seville, Granada, Málaga, Costa del Sol, all these places are our playground in 2027. Every day will include opportunities to visit striking cliffs, cultural institutions, and maybe a snorkeling or scuba diving adventure if you're feeling up for it!

Staying in the path of totality for a solar eclipse is something not everyone thinks about, but makes the day SO MUCH better.

Traffic is bad getting to an eclipse yes. But leaving is a nightmare. Travel times get multiplied by 3 or 4. You get snarled up on back roads with no way out but to wait.

If you're on one of my trips, you stay in the path for the whole day. Practice our camera set ups so we're good to go.

This is our place for Spain 2027. It's miles from the Mediterranean coast and has a clear view of the whole eclipse. ❤️❤️❤️

Many people have been in 75%, 85%, or even 95% totality, and wonder if they've really seen a total solar eclipse.

The answer is no. The difference between 99% is, pun intended, like night and day.

It gets cold. Day time bugs stop buzzing and nighttime bugs start chirping.

You can see stars. There's a 360 degree sunrise everywhere you look.

Then there's the sun itself. It looks like a diamond flower in the sky.

It's easy to see why early humans saw them as harbingers of the apocalypse. Heck, I know what's happening, and it feels exhilarating and scary at the same time.
