This is not her birthday.
Fourteen years today.
Fourteen years since we said goodbye.
In just three months, she would be turning 20 years old.
That number feels impossible somehow.
People often think grief is about looking backward, but so much of it is looking forward and seeing all the things that never got to be.
The young woman we never got to know.
The conversations we'll never have.
The dreams we'll never hear about.
The milestones we'll never celebrate.
Loss isn't only about what happened 14 years ago.
It's about every day since.
It's about carrying both lives at once — the life we're living, and the life that will always have her missing from it.
Fourteen years later, we still wonder who she would be.
And we still love her just as fiercely as we did then.
Always loved.
Always missed.
