Enter my mundane world and find some extraordinary within the commonplace, at your leisure. People are beautiful and vital. Let me explain:
Years ago I was a part of a missions team with YWAM (Youth With A Mission). Our base was located in the South of England. During one of our particularly emotional lectures the speaker implored us to picture our surroundings with new eyes, like God might
see things. I, as every other student, wandered about the rural 17 acres looking at bugs, benches, trees, buildings, etc. We were looking to be inspired by God. I couldn't do it. I felt like I was making stuff up. I was trivializing instead of finding the wonder. "What was the point of this exercise anyway??", I asked as I sat on this bench with my head hung low and my hands folded in prayer. Then I looked up. What I saw was this: my fellow ministry students on various levels, quietly and judiciously inspecting everything from minute insects to the vast reaches of the English country side and beyond. And I was profoundly taken aback. You see, our school had a very rough time. Spiritual attacks, not so spiritual attacks...it was a broken group of people. And we were all bitter. I saw each person and heard in my heart "this is what I care about right now. Not the birds, the sky, the countryside, or anything else. Right now, I care about these people. I care about YOU. Each and every person here is unique and so vital to the ministry I have chosen for each of them. Their innermost details are primary to me. My love for PEOPLE is deeper, oh so much deeper than what you are going through right now." There was more, but this was the crux of what I felt in my heart to be true. And ever since that day I have changed how I feel about people. You are worthy. You are amazing. You were created in, by, through and for LOVE. So, how do I minister to people through my art? I photograph them and I show the real, gritty, amazing, fantastic, reality of YOU. Do you long to realize your true worth? I want to help. Because, sometimes you have to believe in order to see. You are extraordinary!
