Friday night lights are officially back, and history was made in Monroe.

The Cheesemakers took the field for the first-ever regular season home game at the brand-new Badger State Ethanol Stadium. (Huge lightning upgrade 👌🫡)

Having 2/3 of the Second Crop kiddos on the sidelines with me to take in the packed stands, the crisp dusk sky, and the roar of the hometown crowd made it an incredible night to kick off the fall season.

I will be the first to admit I was a little rusty on the sidelines for week one. I left a few snaps on the turf that I wish I had back, but we still managed to pull in a solid harvest of hits, breakaways, and pure gridiron effort. Oregon took the opener 27-14, but Monroe battled hard every single quarter.

The full game gallery is dropping on the site this weekend, along with all the pre-game festivities.

Right off the plane from Montana and right back to the real life grind.

Night one back was fully action-packed, jumping straight from meet the teacher into an incredible senior session with Eli. From the minute we started, Eli brought the ideas, the collaboration, and unmatched swagger to every single frame.

We kicked things off at the new Monroe High School campus, working the grand entrance arch, laying out his State track hardware on the fresh surface, and tapping into school heritage with the traditional curd buster in front of the Cheesemaker mural.

From there, we chased the light out to a family farm overlooking the valley for sunset. Between getting his Honda dirt bike into the field, working the compound bow in the tall grass, and catching the moon rising over the ridge at dusk, the second half of the night was pure gold.

A huge thank you to Eli for bringing fantastic energy and making the collaboration so smooth. Wishing you a dominant senior year on the track, in the woods, and in everything ahead! 🏃‍♂️🏹🏍️🔴⚪️

Day four in Big Sky Country, and we could not have scripted a better finale to wrap up this getaway.

We kicked off our final morning dialing things down at a new local coffee spot before heading over to Montana Grizzly Encounter just outside Bozeman. Getting to see rescued grizzlies like Max and Bella up close, splashing around in the pond and playing with oversized toys, was unreal to witness from just a few feet away.

From there, we took the scenic drive over to Livingston for lunch, walking the historic streets, admiring the classic 1890s brick architecture around the Murray Hotel, and doing some vintage shopping. We even managed to find a vintage Henry Vilas Zoo tee thousands of miles away from Madison.

Next up was the highlight of the day: Chico Hot Springs tucked into Paradise Valley.

Chico is the definition of historic Montana charm. Established back in 1900 right beneath Emigrant Peak, it feels like stepping back in time with its rustic wood-beamed saloon vibe and open-air natural geothermal mineral pools. We grabbed drinks, soaked our trail-weary legs in the hot spring water, and ended up striking up great conversations and making new friends in the pool. It was the absolute best way to decompress.

We made the drive back to Bozeman for our final supper and one last stop for ice cream (even with the line wrapped out the door, we weren’t skipping it).

Now the bags are packed, we are resting up in bed, and getting ready for the flights home tomorrow. All good things must come to an end, but this trip set the bar high. Until next time, Montana. ✌🏻🏔️🐻♨️

Day three in Montana was an absolute masterclass in vertical gain.

We fueled up early with a quick stop at Wildflower Coffee (a killer little drive-up stand tucked right under the mountains) before tackling back-to-back trails in the Bridger foothills: the iconic “M” Trail followed immediately by Drinking Horse.

By the numbers, here is what we put in before lunch:

• 4 miles of mountain dirt and rock
• 1,500 vertical feet climbed (the rough equivalent of walking up a 125-story building)
• 2 hours and 20 minutes on the mountain
• 2 separate summit overlooks starting 5,000 feet above sea level

From there, we pushed up to Fairy Lake on empty stomachs just as dark skies started rolling over the peaks. We got about 5 to 10 minutes to take in the unreal emerald water before an impending thunderstorm chased us right back down the mountain.

We finally made it back into Bozeman around 4:00 PM for a very late lunch at Copper Whiskey Bar. After knocking out steak, fresh trout, and four huckleberry mules, we rolled ourselves down the street to Sweet Peaks for ice cream before heading back to the hotel for a pair of well-earned showers.

Tomorrow is our final day in Big Sky Country, and after logging that kind of mileage on our legs, we are officially ready to dial the intensity down.

Day two in Montana set the bar ridiculously high.

We kicked off the morning waking up to light sprinkles after another great night of sleep, followed by a complimentary breakfast that easily cracked our all-time top three from anywhere we have ever traveled.

Before hitting the trails, we braved the line at Lucky Penny for some much-needed coffee (worth every single minute of the wait) to fuel up for the morning. From there, we logged around two hours, 16,000 steps, and hiked two separate trails to chase down a pair of stunning waterfalls nestled in the canyon.

After putting in the trail work, we headed back into town for an incredible dinner at Revelry and capped off the night with world-class drinks over at Copper Whiskey Bar.

To wrap it all up, the evening rain settled in right on cue. Safe to say, the smell of mountain rain in Montana hits about 10x better than anywhere else on earth.

The secret is officially out. ✈️🏔️

After weeks of keeping things under wraps, Second Crop Mama and I wrapped up a long travel day and touched down in Bozeman, Montana for a five-day getaway.

Day one was all about getting our bearings. We hit the streets, explored downtown, checked out some incredible local shops, and tracked down some top-tier food and drinks before calling it an early night. After a packed week of shoots back home, waking up with a 90+ sleep score against these mountain views was the exact reset we needed.

Recharged and ready to see what Big Sky Country has in store for day two.

Burning the midnight oil to schedule this post because right now, Second Crop Mama and I are officially on flight one of two for a quick, secret five-day getaway somewhere in the US. ✈️🌴

Before packing the bags, we wrapped up an unbelievable senior session with Drew. We hit the grounds around the new Monroe High School, and by the time we transitioned to the basketball looks, Drew was running the show with killer ideas. We locked in epic twilight frames outside the new building and even took a nostalgic trip back to his elementary gym at Northside to capture where the journey first started.

Mom, dad, and the family pup jumped into the mix too, making it a high-energy, all-hustle session from start to finish.
A massive thank you to Drew and his family for such a fun evening. Wishing you an incredible senior year on the hardwood and beyond! 🏀🔴⚪️

Today was the annual Monroe Chamber Golf Outing at Monroe Golf Club, and the weather could not have dialed up a better day to be out on the links. Events like this are what make the Monroe community so special, bringing local business leaders, familiar faces, and plenty of new connections together to support a fantastic fundraiser.

From turf-exploding tee shots and clutch putts to high-speed cart cruising and some heroic multi-bag carrying, there was no shortage of incredible photo ops across all 18 holes.

A big thank you to the Monroe Chamber of Commerce and Industry team and Monroe Golf Club for hosting the event.

Kicked off another busy week of shoots with a double-town senior session for Nolan, splitting our evening between New Glarus and Belleville.

Nolan made the entire night seamless as we covered some serious ground. We started on the hardwood in the gym, moved out to the diamond to lay out years of baseball memories across home plate, and finished the night out on the bridge in Belleville.

We got some incredible frames at the bridge, even if the local mosquito population decided to join the shoot uninvited.

My trusty associate was back on the clock for this one. He managed to hunt down a semiquincentennial dime on the ground and negotiated his official assistant fee: a medium Culver’s chocolate shake to wrap up the night.

A huge thank you to Nolan for a fantastic shoot. Wishing you a dominant senior year ahead on the court, on the diamond, and in everything you take on this season! 🏀⚾️🔴🔵
