Rejections from Vermont film festivals have definitely stung the most. Creating really is such a double edged sword, particularly with intimate and personal stories (or songs or paintings or whatever your medium may be). But taking time to reflect on the folks who have been moved by Suzanne's story/life's work presented in this film and those who have taken the time out of their busy lives to watch it on their own accord has meant a lot. It's a difficult reminder that creation should be about the process, the journey, the internal satisfaction it gives you and not accolades or screenings or laurels.
Anyway, this short doc I made about my friend Suzanne (along with my other friend Kerry) is now 'public'. You can watch if you want, or not watch if you don't want. In the end, I'm just grateful for the connection the medium of filmmaking can foster. I'm grateful for people's vulnerability and trust and grace and humor and kindness. I am forever grateful to Suzanne for sharing so much of herself with us. We miss her.
