Did you ever live abroad in any of the BLUE countries on this world map? Did you immigrate to the USA from any of these places back in the 1980's, 1990's, or 2000's? If so, your VHS tapes from these periods are most likely in the PAL format and cannot be played on a conventional NTSC North American VCR.

Luckily, Reiss Restorations is now happy to offer complete digitization services for any PAL format VHS or VHS-C tape. Very few local digitization companies can offer PAL transfers due to the rare nature of the players in our region. And the few that do charge exorbitantly high prices.

At Reiss Restorations, we strive to help preserve your own memories, but now, we need your help. A couple years back, we purchased a bunch of 2-inch quadraplex tapes that came from WNEW in New York (now FOX 5 New York) that were literally rescued from a dumpster. Many of these tapes consist of The King Family shows, as well as a relatively obscure Channel 5 show called The New Yorkers that ran in 1968 (screenshot from the show below). We digitized a few reels on our own dime, but there are many more still waiting to be digitized. As you might imagine, getting these sort of tapes digitized is not cheap, so we need your help to reach our goal of $8,000. We recently digitized some neat super 8 sound film of the Casino Pier on the Seaside Heights, New Jersey boardwalk from Easter Sunday (April 19) 1981. The footage includes a POV of the former Jet Star rollercoaster, which operated from 1970-2000. Thanks to the Coller Family for shooting this wonderful time capsule!

Were you alive for José Feliciano's famous performance of the Star-Spangled Banner at Game 5 of the 1968 World Series? Do you remember seeing it IN COLOR?

We were lucky enough to find what is believed to be the only color footage in existence of the performance, on a 2-inch quadruplex broadcast videotape. Because we cannot process quad tapes ourselves, our friends at New York Camera and Video did a stellar transfer for all to see.

Moldy tapes are a big problem in 2024. Years of improper storage and climate conditions make many tapes have made many tapes unplayable. However, here at Reiss Restorations we like to say that very few things are ever "too far gone" for restoration.
