I live in London, England and I am addicted to photographing dogs. This is something I've been doing fairly obsessively now for almost 30 years and it shows no sign of stopping.

"Dogs Home and Away"

As part of my streetdographer takeover, I thought I'd start with a set of some of my favourite photographs, taken both in the UK and abroad, the caption underneath each image tells you where and when it was taken.
What can we learn from this collection? I have absolutely no idea. Apart from the fact that dogs are inherently funny and photogenic, wherever you might be in the world – from outside a temple in Mumbai, to on the London Underground, or even in a public toilet in NYC, there's almost always going to be a dog just waiting to be discovered and photographed. And long may this continue.

In salute to Dolly Parton and her love of dogs, streetdographer shares images of "eye patch" dogs like "Cracker Jack," her childhood pet and the namesake of her song.

Here are the Street photographs I could find with a ring, mark, or patch over just one eye, if you have one, please share in the comments! (Instagram will let you post photos in the comments now.)

Throughout her life, Dolly was an animal supporter, and a friend of dogs. In addition to Cracker Jack, she shared her life with various dogs, supported their causes, and even had the fashion line Doggy Parton
Other notable dogs in Dolly's life were Popeye, her Boston Terrier during the 80s, and recently she was "godmother" to a French Bulldog called Billy the Kid Billy The Kid , namesake of her children's book series.
It so happens that many of the dogs in this selection are Boston Terriers or French Bulldogs. I don't know for sure with some of these, make a comment if you know.

“(Fendi is) currently on her first-ever headlining tour…Fendi will be waiting back in the dressing room wearing a bedazzled pink collar and a matching dress…After the show, Elliott will put her in a stroller and they’ll roll together out of the stadium. 'She’s made for the road,’ Elliott says proudly.

Fendi doesn’t play with toys. (‘She’s too grand for that,’ Elliott explains.) But the two most anthropomorphic things about Fendi? Her love of Elliott’s music, especially the song 'Lose Control'—she always seemed to jump down off of the chair when that’s on,' she says—and, her energy in front of the camera. Whip one out, and Fendi somehow immediately knows to strike a pose. 'She’s a star,’ says Elliott."

Mr. Famous and Audrey Hepburn, story via Forbes

"For some, the idea of a dog being part of someone’s aesthetic is off-putting. After all, dogs aren’t accessories. However, when dogs are truly companions as they were to Audrey Hepburn, they can become almost synonymous with their owners. Hepburn was among the first in Hollywood to bring her dogs along everywhere she could, in turn making it glamorous to have a beloved pooch underfoot—and unintentionally contributing to the concept of a dog being a chic fashion accessory.

'How to be Lovely: The Audrey Hepburn Way of Life' by Melissa Hellstern quoted Hepburn as saying, ‘I walk my dogs to keep me fit. I talk to my dogs, which keeps me sane. I can’t think of anything that makes one happier than to cuddle and play and start the day with a warm puppy.’ She also referred to her dogs as her ‘little hamburgers.’ Dogs were an integral part of Hepburn’s happiness and became part of her public image because they were so often by her side both on sets and in her private life.

Her most well-known canine companion was a Yorkshire terrier appropriately named Mr. Famous. He traveled to be on location with Hepburn for her films, and even appeared for a cameo in 'Funny Face.' During breaks on set, Hepburn was known to ride her bicycle with Mr. Famous in the basket.”

Hi everyone, I’m Jasmina Jasmina Trifoni back for Day 2 of my takeover on streetdographer . I’m very happy for this opportunity.
I’m a journalist based in Rome and I travel extensively on assignment, mainly in Asia. Since I work with words, even when I take photos I’m focused on storytelling. I hope you’ll enjoy my dog stories from around the world.

Photos 1-4, Tbilisi, Georgia:
While stray dogs are a no-no in many developed countries, it has become somewhat normal in Georgia for some reason. In Tbilisi alone, there are around 50,000 stray dogs, mainly Labrador crossbreeds. Around half of this population is vaccinated, sterilized and tagged with a pin on an ear. They are very quiet and friendly, and many of them are a somewhat “collective property” of a neighborhood, or a cafe or restaurant, and treated like beloved pets. Some of them have become celebrities, and have their own page. Like the blue-eyed half-Labrador called Marco, in honor of Marco Polo, because he loves to travel: he often jumps on buses and explores the city, going sometimes to the Tbilisi airport.

A strange light on the beach? Some moments from the opera “Sun and Sea (Marina,)” Sun & Sea opera-performance
by the Lithuanian artists Lina Lapelyte Vaiva Grainytė and Rugilė Barzdžiukaitė which was on stage at , Rome. For the occasion, the theatre floor was transformed into a beach, with 20+ performers partaking in common beach activities like reading, playing badminton, chatting, checking phones, eating, doing yoga and so on while singing. Unbound by human owners and the constraints of petdom, Indian street dogs live the doggiest of dog lives: they sleep when they want, mingle with friends they choose, p*e when the urge hits, and eat when hungry—as long as food can be found. Wandering the streets of India, you can see them dozing alone or in company on pavements, seeking shelter from the heat under a van, watching children play on the beach, or being cared for by local residents. Part of Indian street life, these free-living dogs stand in stark contrast to the culture of pet ownership found in the West, and pose a fundamental challenge to the idea that animals must serve some human purpose. Indian pariah dogs (as the British colonizers called them, associating them with the outcaste,) defy the assumption that dogs must belong to humans, and also help us reflect on how humankind can share the planet with all the other creatures who live on it. It is estimated that there are around 70 million street dogs living in the cities of the Subcontinent.

New York has many a parade where the dogs are as well dressed as their humans. These include the Easter Parade, St. Patrick's Day Parade, the Tartan Day Parade, the Lunar New Year Parade and the Tompkins Park Halloween Dog Parade. The streets are filled with dogs and people excited to see all the coordinated costumes. These provide the opportunity to engage with all kinds of people while having fun. The people relish the opportunity to show off their creativity of the matching costumes of the their dogs and themselves.

Hi Everyone,
B Jane here bjanelevine for Day 1 of 2 of my streetdographer takeover.

Dogs on the street are often carried, pampered and loved by their humans.
They travel to all of the corners of the city in places that were once reserved for humans only. They are carried in arms, in dedicated bags, backpacks, strollers, tucked inside sweaters and on shoulders. They can even assist in driving a car. They accompany their humans to and from
errands such as shopping, sightseeing, visits to restaurants, as well as a walk in the city streets. They provide companionship and emotional attachments for their human counterparts and they often function as an icebreaker for people to open up a connection to a stranger on the street. They are treated as an extended member of their family, treated with utmost love and respect and often appear to be the King/ Queen of the street!

"On May 1, 2026, legendary actress Glenn Close was immortalized at the TCL Chinese Theatre in Hollywood, but her dog, Sir Pippin of Beanfield Pip Close, the Havanese (or ‘Pip’), stole the show by adding his own paw print to the cement.

Pip, a rescue Havanese, sat by Close's side throughout the event and pressed his paw into the wet concrete alongside her handprints for a ‘sweet personal touch.’”
