So excited to bring these to meetings tomorrow- sound on to hear the story that sparked these gifts

WASHINGTON DC / Day 2

I left yesterday and touched ground on the east coast this afternoon.

Today I’m sharing a little context for the conversations I’m here to have.

For the last several months my film project has documented stories connected to public lands—people foraging, hunting, guiding, working, recreating, and building lives in relationship with these places.

This week I’m carrying some of those stories into meetings.

The Tongass is often talked about as a forest.

But for a lot of people, it’s also food, work, memory, culture, stewardship, and home.

Thanks for following along while I share pieces of this week and this project 🌲

Day 1- Washington DC

Leaving Alaska tomorrow.

For the last several months I’ve been documenting stories connected to public lands—not just landscapes, but people.

Food. Tradition. Work. Memory. The ways places shape our lives.

This week I’m taking some of those stories with me to Washington DC.

Before I left, my four year old insisted I bring spruce tip jelly and spruce tip scones.

She told me if people taste the forest, they’ll want to protect it.

I laughed at first.

But honestly, I think she understands something important.

I’ll share pieces of the week as I go 🌲

First surprise proposal of the season 🤍❄️🐕🛷💍

He planned it all the way out on the glacier surrounded by snow covered peaks, a team of sled dogs, and the kind of Alaska views that don’t even feel real. She said yes somewhere between the mountains and the sound of paws on snow.

This all took place in the Tongass National Forest, the largest temperate rainforest in the world, where glaciers, rainforest, and alpine landscapes collide in a way that only exists in Southeast Alaska.

Helicopter dog sled tours in Juneau, Alaska with Coastal Helicopters, Inc. are one of the most unforgettable ways to experience the icefields. You fly by helicopter onto a glacier, meet the sled dog teams, and explore some of the most remote landscapes in Southeast Alaska. Easily one of the most unique proposal ideas in Alaska.

Sometimes I have to stop and realize this is the life I built. 🤍

From photographing weddings on glaciers, helicopters, seaplanes, and kayaks to traveling internationally to Jamaica with my camera in hand… this career has taken me places I once only dreamed about. Along the way, I’ve also had the honor of documenting births, newborns, families, and some of the most meaningful moments in people’s lives.

Somewhere in between all the adventure, my work has also been recognized through the Alaska Magazine photo contest, award-winning moments with the Elopement Photography Awards, and gold in Juneau, Alaska’s best photographer category, which still feels surreal to say out loud.

I’ve built a life around storytelling, adventure, emotion, and human connection. Every late night edit, every flight, every muddy boot, every risk for the shot has been worth it. And somehow, I still feel like I’m only just getting started.

I appreciate every single person who has trusted me to document their story. Truly. I can’t wait to see what this summer wedding season brings. ✈️🏔️🎞️

Swipe to see the behind the scenes of creating this image.
This wedding is officially up next in my editing queue, but I had to send over this sneak peek first because I honestly could not wait. 🤍

What makes this even better? This image is nearly untouched in editing. This is what happens when you get it right in camera. The lighting, the posing, the timing, the sunset, the direction — all coming together in one frame.

Meanwhile, I’m across the water climbing over cliff rocks with cameras hanging off me, directing the groom where to hold the flash while racing the last light of sunset. I probably looked completely insane carrying all that gear, but the final image makes it all worth it every single time.

People often think the magic happens in Photoshop, but so much of it happens before I ever click the shutter. Knowing how to shape light in real time matters. And Alaska sunsets like this definitely help too.

Alaska had other ideas for this elopement day.

The original plan was a float plane flight out to Taku Lodge for a glacier-front ceremony and romantic dinner tucked deep in the mountains. But by morning, the fog rolled in too low to safely fly. Instead of forcing the timeline, we pivoted.

We headed to frozen Auke Lake, one of my favorite local spots when Southeast Alaska decides to remind everyone who’s really in charge. I knew the mountains would still peek through the clouds here, the mist would stay lighter for photos, and they could still exchange vows beside the water without battling the icy ocean wind and spray.

Standing together on the dock, surrounded by ice and stillness, they read vows while still floating over the water just as they had imagined. Different backdrop. Same intention. Honestly, it felt exactly like Alaska romance is supposed to feel.
