Film has its own mood, its own personality. And each roll is unique. Every frame is raw. No retouching. No color grading. Just light and chemistry doing their thing.
The grain is part of the story too. So is the soft focus. So is the way the light wraps around everything a little differently than digital ever will. It’s warmer. It flares. It creates its own character. That’s what I love about shooting film. I’m not trying to control the image. I’m letting the light and the moment do most of the work. And film rewards that. It catches things I didn’t even see until the scans come back, which it’s its own type of magic.
Some of these are medium format. Some are 35mm. Some are color and some are black and white. All of them are straight from the scanner, true to the moment. I think that’s why people connect with film the way they do. It feels like something real in a world where not everything is. It’s unique, it’s imperfect, and it’s timeless.
