I drove by this location (56th and Pena) the other day and my heart sank a little. 😫

There are fences around it now, equipment everywhere, and it looks like the city is getting ready to build on the land.

What makes me sad is that this spot gave me two of my favorite sessions. ( and )

The funny part? I pulled up here the first time with with nothing but a vision, a client who trusted me, and a prayer. 😂

I had no idea we’d end up photographing with the horses. The owners were incredibly kind, welcomed us onto the property, and let us create for free. Something they absolutely didn’t have to do.

Looking back, that’s how so much of my photography journey has happened.

A vision.
A location.
God’s approval.
And somehow everything else falls into place.

These images are a reminder that some opportunities are only meant for a season, and I’m grateful we got to experience this one before it disappeared. 🤎📸

“How’s your little business doing?”

I know people usually mean well when they say it…

But let’s stop calling it a little business.

It may be a small business by definition, but there is nothing little about the sacrifices, the long nights, the investments, the risks, the lessons, or the responsibility that comes with building it.

There is nothing little about the clients who trust me with their memories.

Nothing little about the taxes, the invoices, the marketing, the editing, the consultations, the contracts, and the countless hours nobody sees.

Nothing little about creating something from an idea and turning it into something that supports a family.

This business may not have millions of followers.

It may not have a huge team.

But it has impact.

And that’s more important than numbers.

So no…

It’s not my little business.

It’s the business I prayed for, built, cried over, sacrificed for, and continue to grow every single day.

For a long time, I thought I was doing what I had to do.

Showing up.
Working.
Taking care of everybody.
Making things happen.

And I was.

But somewhere along the way, I realized I had gotten really good at surviving…

and forgotten how to simply be.

Survival mode had me moving so fast that I wasn’t slowing down long enough to ask myself what I (Chermetra) needed.

So this summer, I’m choosing me.

Not in a selfish way.

In a healthy way.

I’m choosing slower mornings.

More walks.

Healthier foods.

More water.

More rest.

More conversations with God.

More listening.

More presence.

More of the things that make me feel like myself again.

Because the truth is, healing isn’t always some big life-changing moment.

Sometimes it looks like waking up earlier (or hitting snooze).
Taking the walk.
Reading the Bible.
Drinking the water.
Protecting your peace.
Choosing yourself over and over again.

For so many years I lived in survival mode.

This summer, I’m choosing (me) intentionality.

People always ask why I’m so passionate about what I do.

The truth?

This brand is personal.

The Female Shoota wasn’t built because I simply loved photography.

It was built from my own experiences.

From being the little girl who didn’t always feel seen.

From questioning my worth.
Comparing myself.
Hiding parts of myself.
Shrinking in rooms I was meant to take up space in.

So when women step in front of my camera, I’m not just taking pictures.

I’m helping them see what I’ve spent years learning to see in myself.

The beauty.
The strength.
The confidence.
The story.

Every time I tell a client to stop overthinking, stop apologizing for who they are, stop picking themselves apart…

I’m speaking to a younger version of myself too.

My brand was born from my own healing journey.

And if my work helps even one woman see herself differently, stand a little taller, or love herself a little deeper…

Then every part of that journey was worth it.

I’m always looking for what God is trying to tell me in every situation.

A few years ago, a friend gifted me my very own Bible, and honestly, it was one of the best gifts I’ve ever received.

It’s pink, sits right beside my bed, and unless I’m reading it in the bathroom on any given morning (😂), it rarely leaves my side.

What started as reading scripture has become something much bigger. It’s become a conversation. A relationship. A place where I go when I’m confused, afraid, uncertain, grateful, or simply seeking direction.

There have been so many moments in my life where I didn’t understand what God was doing.

The seasons where I felt unseen.
The relationships that didn’t work out.
The times I questioned myself.
The moments I was building my business while battling fear and imposter syndrome.
The seasons of single motherhood where I was just trying to survive and figure it all out.

Looking back now, I can see God’s hand in all of it.

Not because every season was easy.
Not because every prayer was answered the way I wanted.

But because every season taught me something.

God has a way of revealing purpose through pain, strength through struggle, and peace through surrender.

I truly don’t believe I’d be where I am today had I not started paying attention to what He continues to tell me and show me.

So today, I’m just thankful.

Thankful for the lessons.
Thankful for the growth.
Thankful for the grace.
Thankful that even when I couldn’t see the path ahead, God could.

And for that, I’ll keep trusting Him.

Taking the experience to the next level and introducing 🎉😍

One thing I’m learning as I continue to grow is that great photos don’t happen by accident.

They’re intentional.

From the location, to the lighting, to the wardrobe, every detail matters.

For this session, my client trusted the process and invested in styling support, and it made such a difference. Having someone there focused on fit, details, and overall presentation allowed her to simply show up and be present.

As a photographer, I’ll always guide my clients, but for those who want an elevated experience, styling is another way to invest in yourself and your images.

Because sometimes the difference between a good photo and a great photo is in the details.
