There’s nothing more peaceful to me when in the field shooting than appreciating the scene for what it is before it turns into a photograph. The sounds of nature, watching the stars appear over the desert floor as the sun disappears and everything in between, it’s a zen-like moment for me and live for these moments.

I say it all of the time, but Iceland has to be my favorite place to create. Locations get photographed and photographed again, but it’s the finding of something new, even if just for yourself, that feels the best. Summer light dips over the horizon in a favorite location of mine with spring flowers in bloom.

Sunrise colors and cotton candy clouds after a storm. I recently was asked where the most photogenic place I’ve traveled to or photographed and I was surprised it even took me .2 of a second to say Iceland! For me there’s not a prettier landscape, but that’s just me! Where do you guys like to shoot?

This year’s fall colors here in Colorado didn’t disappoint and capturing a scene like this just down the road from our families old cabin where I spent so much of my youth growing up, even more special.

Again, I’ve been a bit removed from the platform here for a while, but stay tuned for an exciting announcement next week, super stoked and can’t wait to share with you all 🔥 .

Death Valley’s landscape is nothing short of incredible and I have a hard time finding another location I love photographing more when the weather’s working. This landscape has the potential to be one of the most incredible experiences; from rain to gale force wind and sandstorms to snow all in one sunrise shoot.

It seems this has been the year for Iceland for me. I just returned from another trip, this time solo, to hit summer and flowers and the weather that comes with this gorgeous season in probably my favorite country and landscape to photograph.

I spent 10 days floating from location to location in my rental vehicle chasing light and doing a bit of both and trying to find the happy middle: avoiding socked in cloudy weather and trying find that “sweet spot” of clouds and light.

The eastern side of the island happens to be my favorite with its varied landscape of dramatic peaks, wild weather, deltas and let’s not forget about the lobster pizzas 🦞 🍕 . . .

A couple of months ago I set out to Iceland with my buddy, Ian Plant, looking to photograph the Fagradalsfjall volcano, but had issues in Germany making our connection at no fault of our own. United failed to book us properly onto our connecting flight and in the end had to come directly back home and pay for this additional leg out of pocket as well. It was pretty disheartening to say the least and in my efforts to make light of the bummer situation I joked with family and friends calling it a $2,400 croissant run :)

A couple of weeks ago Ian and I made the journey for a second time to shoot and film another Shuttermonkeys episode we will release here soon as we felt we needed to make this extra effort and attempt. I’m so stoked we did as this was my first volcano I’ve shot; it was simply incredible standing there watching each eruption hearing the roar, feeling the heat and earth rumble.

Any print requests DM me, I’d love to print this one out.

When I was in Death Valley a few weeks back I was hoping for crazy weather and wind. Normally I really don't like wind with one exception: if I'm near sand dunes and then BRING IT! I was in the area for a little over two weeks and experienced everything from rain to snow to absolutely CRAZY winds, one day easily over 50mph! There's nothing like fresh sand dunes during high winds to really make for perfect conditions.
