Standing inside this monument, I felt something bigger than history. I felt a reminder.
The Befreiungshalle was built to honor victory over Napoleon and the wars of liberation, but what moved me most was not the battle it commemorates. It was the message carved into every detail. Freedom is never accidental. It is earned, protected, and carried forward by people willing to sacrifice for something beyond themselves.
The circle of figures holding hands stopped me in my tracks. Strength, unity, connection. Not one standing alone, but all linked together. That image felt timeless. Because freedom has always required courage, but it also requires community.
We often speak of freedom as if it is permanent, as if it simply exists on its own. Places like this remind us otherwise. Freedom asks something of every generation: responsibility, gratitude, vigilance, and a willingness to stand together when it matters most.
I left inspired, humbled, and grateful for those who came before us, and mindful of what we are called to protect now.
