Bringing home a new baby is a big deal for the family dog! I love incorporating dogs into newborn sessions. Here are a few tips to make the session a success. Work with your pup before the shoot as much as possible. Try having them lie next to you and baby in a relaxed atmosphere. They are naturally excited about this new person in their lives and getting them used to being calm with them takes time. Just remember that they read the energy in the room, so if you are relaxed, they will be able to follow suit.

I try to get pictures of pets towards the end of our session so that they have time to get used to me being in their space and we can set a calm tone. Just know that no matter how your dog behaves, I have seen it all and I am not bothered at all. They WILL do the unexpected and that is okay! Safety is our #1 priority, so if your dog is a little too excited for one on one pictures with Baby, we will be creative about incorporating them into pictures of the whole family.

Part of what I love about meeting and photographing families with newborns is how creatively they incorporate their hobbies and passions into our sessions. What is better than pictures of cute babies? Cute babies with motorcycles!😍

A lifestyle newborn session is relaxed and flexible, I am there to capture photos of your family in the comfort of your own home with minimal posing. We usually take our time, because life with newborns is unpredictable. I plan to be there up to 2 hours because spit up and blowout diapers are just inevitable. You book your session whenever YOU are feeling ready, that can be a few days or a few weeks after baby is born... everyone recovers from birth at their own rate. As a childbirth educator and doula, I love lifestyle photography because it respects and honors the recovery process and there is no pressure on the family to have it all together. Speaking of no pressure... don't even think about getting your house tidy and clean. All I need is a corner of a room with some good natural light. I can move stuff out of the way if needed when I get there. It's not about capturing perfection, it's about documenting this beautiful new time in your lives.

There is something so powerful in just having someone to hold your hand. Someone to be quietly present with you. They don't have to say anything... Don't have to know a bunch of fancy maneuvers. Just to know that you are loved and not alone, makes all the difference in the world when you are in labor.
