I haven't done anything on this page since August 2021. Amazing!
Well, truth be known, I have a different thought than I had for this page. I fully intend to report on eateries here and abouts. And will no doubt include some photo stuff.
Speaking of which, I have a coffee table book published through Amazon. You know what that is? If you have a coffee table in front of your couch that book is left there for yourself and your guest's enjoyment. Unless of course you're watching TV, or whatever, and have no time for old time entertainment. Its title is "Just Cause" by C. Winslow Shafer.

In the final analysis photography is an art form. Today’s photography extends from simple cell phone snapshots to highly technical, software driven, images and composites – from the very simple to the very complex. Ultimately, it’s all about telling a story. Video is also an art form that tells a story. The oldest means, of course, is simple word of mouth and acting it out. There also is writing.
Have you ever thought of putting your thoughts and/or experiences into written words? The written word is a magical place where the writer’s efforts become the readers vision. Well, it’s almost here, the day we honor the most important person in our lives – our mothers. If your looking for an alternative to the traditional flower arrangement or potted plant you might think about a photo enriched cell phone cover, tote bag or throw pillow. Or maybe, an incredibly special greeting card. Something like this waving squirrel or, maybe a horse or, bright colored flowers. There are a lot of opportunities on-line. Why not check it out? So, what’s the difference between “compact travel camera” and “small travel camera”? The size. It used to include capability but that is not so true anymore. A compact camera, by original definition, was smaller than a regular camera and had a fixed lens that could not be removed. Most all had small, ½” to 1”, sensors. View finders may or may not be present. Display LCDs were usually stationary on the back of the camera. Their main use – informally capturing family and events. Size made them easy to carry and have with you.
Now, with smartphone camera advances, the older definitions don’t hold true and are being improved daily. Larger sensors, image stabilization and electronic view finder have challenged the smartphone camera and brought the compact camera back from near extinction. The weather is really getting nice. COVID restrictions are lifting. Outdoor activities are calling. As you may have noticed, Video is becoming more “the thing” when keeping memories alive.
So, I took a look at the leader of the pack - GoPro. GoPro started the trend in 2014 with its “HERO” line of small, waterproof, tough as nails, mount anywhere, video cameras. It has expanded and improved over the years until it is now ready for anything - https://cnpresult.com/gopro-camera-review .
GoPro is certainly the industry leader. It’s “HERO” line of cameras are the cameras that other action cameras have to live up to. Today that that line includes “HERO7”, “HERO8”, “HERO9” and “MAX” (with 360-degree view). Any one of which are more than adequate for any adventure or family gathering.

“Back in the day” we needed to carry large photo bags with lots of lenses, filters, etc. if we wanted to bring back some nice photos. I’d sometimes carry two camera bodies with different lenses, straps around my neck, to be sure of having the right lens camera combination handy. Some might still do that. But It’s not necessary.
My Wife and I were taking a party to central Italy for a couple of weeks. Not wanting to be bogged down with any more bags than necessary I researched ways to reduce the load. The outcome was my first light travel photo kit. One camera body, one lens, one flash and a polarizer. Welcome to the world of the “bridge camera”. That camera had the wide angle to long zoom lens permanently attached – 28mm to 300mm, f/2.8, as I recall. It was so easy, I had so much fun and such good results. A fantastic trip.

Was thinking, cell phone cameras are everywhere. Everybody is a photographer. Are they? Are cell phone users taking pictures as “photographers”? Or, are they snaping pictures and hoping for results – close is good enough.
