Small Bright Things
A nor’easter had moved through Maine, and the harbor was anything but still. The wind was strong enough that boats swung through dramatic arcs on their moorings. Floating docks rose and fell beneath us, and the water seemed to be moving in every direction at once.
Against all of that blue and gray were these brightly painted little dinghies.
I was making ICM images, and rather than trying to tame all that motion, I wanted to use it. The movement of the camera, the boats, the water, and even the dock began to dissolve the scene into something closer to a painting.
What stayed with me was the color.
A little light remembered, in strokes that felt like paint.
