The clouds kept us guessing until the last moment but fortunately we were able to see the April 8, 2024 total solar eclipse from home in North Texas.

North Texas bluebonnets from 2023, mostly from Ennis and a few from Grapevine Lake. Lots of Indian paintbrushes in the Ennis mix this year and I finally found some longhorns in bluebonnets as well!

Images from our 2021 Texas bluebonnet excursions!

It wasn't a banner year for bluebonnets by any means, but we made it it out to Ennis, Brenham & Muleshoe Bend for some flowery explorations.

We haven't traveled much lately (for obvious reasons) but the downtime at home is perfect for revisiting old photos. I decided to try out some of my favorite images in black and white—here are a few I've been playing around with lately!

After living in Texas for 9 years, we finally made it out to Big Bend National Park. Located in the far west side of Texas in the Chihuahuan Desert, Big Bend is one of Texas' two national parks (the other is Guadalupe Mountains National Park, also located in west Texas).

We've been wanting to visit Big Bend for many years but the park is not near much else and it's a 9 hour drive from Dallas. The closest airports only get you halfway to the park, so it makes more sense to drive. There are also a limited amount of motels in the area and they tend to book quickly, so we had to actually plan a trip rather than wing it like we usually do on road trips.

Ultimately, we decided to book three nights in Terlingua to finish off the Colorado/New Mexico/Texas road trip we had planned for the holidays. It was great to finally experience the park, and I've already decided we need to return sooner rather than later, perhaps during bluebonnet season!

Here are some of my favorite images from Big Bend National Park. I'll work on posting some from the rest of our road trip as well!

Been trying to explore the Fort Worth side of DFW a bit more... Here's this morning's sunrise skyline view with some moody fog rolling over the river.

It's been awhile since I posted but maybe I can get back into the swing of things...

We did a little weekend getaway for some Houston skyline and Galveston pier photo ops. Here's Sunday's lovely sunrise on Galveston Island, complete with some beach foliage and the historic Pleasure Pier.

My 2019 New Year's resolution is to get out and do some sort of photo excursion each week (anything goes!) I get lazy when I'm not travelling and there's plenty around home to be explored.

Starting off week 1 with some Dallas skyline views taken from DFW airport, 20 miles outside the city. The skyline is not always visible from this distance, but when it's clear its a great backdrop for some airplane shots. Photos taken at sunset and sunrise at Founder's Plaza.

Some of my favorite photos are from those times we rolled the dice on dubious weather forecasts and everything somehow managed to work out, even if just for a fleeting moment.

This was from our recent trip to Maine. It was wet and soggy all day long, but the prospect of clearing skies at sunset lured us out. I shivered in the wind from atop the observation tower at Mt Battie, waiting to see if the sun would break through the clouds...

And there it was! Just for a moment, lighting up the hills and trees and moody fog... I took a few shots, but just as quickly as it appeared, the sun soon dipped back into the clouds...

We spent the long holiday weekend off the beaten path in the land of no internet or cellphones. I will admit it was refreshing to not be constantly tethered to my electronic devices (except for my camera, of course) and we had a fantastic time with family.

Here are a few scenic countryside photos from our weekend in West Texas.
