Been a minute since I said hello to y’all on the feed 👋🏼 Here’s your bi-annual (?) dose of Bess Ophelia trivia so we can get to know each other a little better.

• I’ve started leaning into more fun and fashionable outfits for wedding days because wearing all black is booooooooooring, and your day deserves a lil pizzazz ✨

• If you play Chappell Roan on your dance floor, a feral side of me WILL emerge

• Real Housewives is almost always playing while I cull + color grade your films. I’m currently almost done with the og RHONY (which I’d never seen before ever????) and Carole is the best housewife of all time, it’s not even up for discussion

• The Oscars are truly my Super Bowl and this year, I’m rooting for The Substance, Conclave, and Wicked. Also Coleman Domingo in Sing Sing bc WOW 🥹

• Because everyone always asks, Ophelia is my real government name. I have a portrait of the original Ophelia that I was named after hanging in my dining room and I aspire to inherit her energy.

• press ons are the way, the truth, and the life, especially when all the tiny buttons on my camera are a fresh manicure’s worst nightmare. These may be the best discovery of 2024.

• I finally deactivated my Facebook last year and literally do not miss it at all

• My Letterboxd top four consists of Babylon, Steel Magnolias, Tick, Tick Boom, and It’s Complicated

A spring wedding weekend straight out of my dreams!! Absolute joy everywhere you looked. The Callands took backyard wedding to a whole new level when they completely transformed their ranch into one of the most gorgeous backdrops I've ever seen. It's one of those days that I can tell will be stuck in my brain for a long time, absolutely perfect in it's own unique and wonderful way.

During our first conversation about their wedding, Kim said, "I really want to look back on our video and feel it." I don't think that's going to be a problem at all because feeling and intention and passion and care went into every aspect of her and Michael's wedding day. One thing that a lot of my couples say is "It's not just a celebration for us, but also for everyone who has walked alongside us and gotten us to this point." When weddings are a celebration of all the love between everyone in the room, there's so much community, so much joy - and being just a small part of that is so fulfilling as a filmmaker. hey gang, it’s your girl 👋🏼 it’s that time of year where I pop in and catch you up on where I’m at, as well as giving you some fun facts about how we do things here at Bess Ophelia Films

• I have officially been a handheld girly for too long and now have to wear a wrist brace for carpel tunnel 🙃 Fellow filmmakers, take care of your bodies!! Age comes for us all!!!

• This year, I’ve found my sweet spot with only taking on 15 weddings. A much smaller number than any of my previous 5 years in business, but it allows me to be more present, more available, and more emotionally in tune with the work I’m creating.

• When choosing music for films, I ask myself “Could this have been played in an episode of This Is Us?” And if so, it gets added to my favorites.

• This year has been all about letting my films breathe, which goes for when I’m shooting and when I’m editing. I’m there to document, not to direct. I’m not focused exclusively on the content I need to capture, but instead I’m focused on letting the whole wedding experience unfold and making sure you’re fully immersed in it. Your moments should be YOUR moments.

• If you or your florist tells me we can take home some arrangements at the end of the night, you better believe I’m throwing some blooms in the trunk of my car 💐 (they’re too beautiful to be thrown away!!)

• This year, I get to second shoot a wedding in ITALY 🇮🇹👀 And have exactly one day during our time over there to do whatever we want, so give me some Florence recommendations in the comments pls and thank u 👇🏼

Talk about ending your year on a high!!! Caylin and Sammy's wedding was such a wonderful way to wrap up my 2023. I don't think there's a single frame in here where these two aren't beaming at one another, which made my job the easiest thing in the whole world. Pro tip - which I'm C+S would agree with - just marry your best friend.
