I don't talk a lot about the political matters around drones or model airplanes, but this one grinds my gears. There is a cartel of individuals in our government who have decided, in absence of any technical evidence or competitive replacement, that they need to completely ban DJI and all other Chinese manufactured drones. Since almost all drones are manufactured all or in part in China, this breaks the industry.

The latest affront in their fight is this Drones for First Responders bill which is like some twisted and incomplete Robin Hood arrangement. This morning, it is being reported that members of this cartel have now written a letter to the attorney general asking them to investigate the organization fighting them by raising awareness and calling to action the members of the community who care about these things. They are arguing that their involvement with DJI makes them foreign agents. This is absolute absurdity.

You should care about this, too, whether you know it or not this will impact you. From limiting access to drones for first responders or preventing kids and grown kids from playing with toys, this whole idea is government overreach and should be stopped.

If you would, please use the DAA site for information about the bills, look up your representatives and senators and use the DAAs guidance to respond to them.

Captured some updated video of a local interest construction project. This road would close every time clouds formed and now we see why. It remains wet and soft long after the rain has stopped.

As the weather starts to clear up, I have an idea I would like to develop this Spring and Summer and I would like the help of some adventurous pioneers. Roughly, think drone mini-sessions.

Do you have big, fast toys or action packed family activities that are harder to represent with a photograph? Drones make it easier. Family photos too scary for your crew? Let's get some epic chase footage instead.

If any of these sound cool, we should talk about your family being one of the first to try out this experience.

The frame on my tinywhoop was getting pretty grungy from all the time in the grass and had developed a crack so it is time to swap. This was a great use of an evening at home.

I had just a few minutes Sunday morning to get some footage of the McMillen project after a heavy rain. You can see pretty well how about 2.25 inches of rain affected the old road.

I took some updated photos and video of the McMillen S Curve project. It is a little difficult to imagine living in this area and not considering whether McMillen is closed after the 3 inches of rain we had earlier this week.

I took some time and advantage of the nice weather to capture progress on a local construction project. It is pretty wild to see a road you've driven down a thousand times fundamentally changed around like this.

I got my start flying balsa, plywood, and monokote airplanes I built myself. I like building and flying these things more than drones, actually. There's something special about flying without a computer's help.
This is a Flite Test Bushwacker. These guys built a huge operation producing foam airplanes you build with hot glue. It's all folds, score cuts, and bevel cuts. You can get the whole power and servo setup from them in PowerPacks, too. Check them out, if you're inclined, then let us know if you need help building or learning to fly.

This sale does actually only happen once a year and the prices are always great. No matter what level you are at, these courses can help you develop a strong foundation, get your Part 107 certification, or expand your experience. I would gladly pay full price for these, but you don't have to.

Rainy, windy days are for editing. I am going back and working through some of my summer adventures again and remembering. I would definitely rather be back in Ohio summer weather with rivers and trees and great people all around.
Spoke Folk was gracious to let us chase them around with the drone for a few days and it was the highlight of my summer. If you're looking for a great summer adventure for a High School or College student, they should be on the list!

This is a sequence leaving from lunch the first day I was with them. The tour had already biked together for a few days at this point and they were working through some serious hills. You can see some of the haze in these shots, but it was nowhere near peak at this point.

It was really good to get out and fly this evening. I've been pretty busy with other hobbies and have neglected the drones a little. I love this time in the evening on clear days. Even without clouds to reflect the "bounce" you can see it in the sky.
