Last night we had an adventure and went out to Cranfill's Gap Rocky Church to take pictures of Neowise. As usual, my wondering eye caught things other than the church or neowise. A spooky Norweigan Descendants of Cranfill's Gap St. Olaf Kierk *or something like the last word* Cemetery. Also, a creepy and spooky chair!
BTW, did you notice, St. Olaf is REAL!
This is an example of night photography. This is one of my favorite types of photography. Its not that hard, you just set your camera up on a tripod, go to manual settings, set to like 30 second shutter open. The shutter speed is the rate at which the shutter lets light in to the sensor on your camera processor. *used to be the film*
So when you do this, you're keeping the shutter open to absorb light at whatever rate you set your other settings. If you have seen those pictures with the streaks in them?
The cool thing I love about night photography, is if you keep your shutter open long enough, night turns into day. Its the coolest. There are many other cool things you can do, like get pictures of the Milky Way.
Now, when I said earlier that its easy, if you have the right equipment and you know how to use those settings. I was a bit handicapped last night due to my not knowing my new-ish camera very well. Then, I didn't trust my gut. These new cameras.. they work like a reverse JPEG. It's not taking information out of the file, it's filling in where it thinks you need it. So some of the pictures start looking light paintings. Which, I don't terribly mind.. ok, I hate it. The reason I should have trusted my gut is I knew better than to turn up my ISO really high. Because the length of time the light hits the sensor, it has to do with *what* you're taking a picture, too. Stars are no good for this. because the earth is moving. So I didn't always need such a high ISO, or "Film Speed".
Digital makes night photography a little harder because of that, too. I would think film will be a better medium. That's hard to find now a days! I had these pics downloaded onto my phone with my camera's WIFI in no time after we got home... but then I sat here on my old desktop this morning. LOL
Anyway, these are ok, but I can't wait to go out somewhere cool again soon.
