More running around in the dark. Hiding from the lights! Found a spot dark enough with a clear night to catch Comet Lemmon [C/2025 A6 (Lemmon)]
Not quite naked eye visible, I managed to catch it with a couple different lenses. I’ve been fascinated by watching the night sky and trying to capture images of it since the 96-97 passing of Hale-Bopp.
2020 was the last major one I photographed, Comet NEOWISE was insane.
It’s no longer just stars and comets. It’s space junk and the hustle and bustle of near earth orbit, and it is getting noticeably worse every year since 2020.
Quite a lot of traffic in the sky, it is a problem no matter how dark a place I find. Astronomers are speaking concerns about their ability to image far off objects if the telescopes are located on earth. Why? The thousands of satellites and flights circling the globe. Passing in front of what they’re trying to capture.
Kind of a bummer and worth thinking about if perfect cell service and internet matters that much?
Go find the dark and remember what it’s like to look up before we trade meteor showers for de-orbiting junk.
