Emily Gray Photography

Emily Gray Photography I am a full-time mom who has been taking photos for years. I prefer photos that are crisp, fresh, and not overly-edited.

I like to keep it simple and clean, and to use my camera to capture the good stuff.

No, I don’t consider myself a wedding photographer. But when a woman who was brave enough to go to law school when she had two young kids asked me to photograph her wedding, I was inspired to be brave enough to say yes. Suzy and Chris, your love and joy radiates warmth out to everyone around you. It was the most beautiful day full of love and I was so honored to be a part of it. Congratulations!

Posting this even though I know the photo couldn’t capture the wonder and peace of the moment and on top of that a tiny little phone screen can’t showcase the photo I took. That said, I still think the fraction of the moment represented here is worth sharing. And no, I have not seen all of my Alaska photos from August yet. The gift that keeps on giving (and overwhelming).

From my show. I love dying ferns, but also brand new ferns.

I am currently wrapping up two prints that are heading to homes in time for Christmas! I’m very excited and honored. There’s still time if any of these have caught your eye. I’m happy to bring them by your house for you to see them in person and test where you might hang it.

We got a little snow in Maine yesterday and today there were little clumps lingering on wet, still somewhat green lawns. It was a bright, sunny day and my son said it felt like spring. It really did. While the reality is it will be at least five more months of winter before real spring, I am sharing these tulips that were in my show that we saw at the Keukenhof Gardens outside of Amsterdam last spring.

Photo from my show. This one printed a little darker than I would have liked. I lived 45 years without seeing the northern lights, although it was definitely something I hoped to see. I had no idea it was going to be this good when it happened in May. Fast forward and I saw them in Alaska and again in Maine! Three wonderful shows within six months. Most of my shots are cell phone, but I did manage a couple decent long exposures like this one on my camera.

A bit of peaceful nature on this stressful day. Dying ferns may not be for everyone, but these weird photos (and some even weirder photos that my daughter thinks I shouldn’t share) speak to me for some reason. Part of why they look blurry is because there were baby pine trees right in front of my lens, which I did purposefully.

Another shot from my show. I first visited Amsterdam on a backpacking trip around Europe after graduating college (so cliché). I’m not going to lie. All I knew was red light district and legalized ma*****na so I really wasn’t enthusiastic about going there because those aren’t my jam. Turns out I loved it so much I wanted to go back and bring my kids when we went to Europe in April. What a beautiful city where love is love, people ride bikes with umbrellas when it’s raining, and every building is just a little bit crooked. It’s a top choice for me if we were ever to live abroad again. (If you’re wondering, I’d also go back to Scotland very happily.)

From my show: sharing this leaf with a drop of ice as the fall color is waning and it starts getting cold. We’ll sort of cold until Halloween when it’s going to be 76°.

This fall has been so wonderful for family photos! Keeping me busy, but keeping me smiling. Here are just a couple highlights. I’m genuinely so honored to get to capture moments for such wonderful people.

Another photo from my show. This one goes way back. It was taken from the deck of the house where I lived in my teens (taken when I was back for a visit). That house had the best sunset views. It was on a hill and we could see the whole sky so when it lit up like this it was spectacular.
