I thought Boro and Sashiko were basically the same thing. I found out they’re not.

So, of course, I took a class. 🪡

Boro comes from repairing, patching and reusing worn cloth, while Sashiko is a Japanese stitching tradition often used to reinforce and repair fabric. They overlap, but they aren’t interchangeable.

What I didn’t expect was how much I love the slowness of it all. It’s just what I need after ten months of chaos. Stitch by stitch. No rushing. Just making, mending and learning.

And now I’ve started my first Boro piece. I’ll show you more soon. ❤️

What do you do on an LA vacation besides eat brunch? You make it. 🥓🍓🍳

Mia and Joseph were visiting Los Angeles from San Francisco and decided to turn brunch into a date by taking my **Sweet + Savory Brunch** cooking class.

We cooked, laughed, learned a few new tricks…and then got to eat everything we made. ❤️

I love when travelers find their way into my kitchen. A cooking class is such a fun way to experience LA and take home something more than a souvenir…you take home the recipes, too!

Looking for a fun **LA date idea** or something different to do while you’re visiting?

Two days ago, black sesame mooncakes. Today, honey pistachio! 💛

These have a sweet, nutty filling tucked inside that beautiful patterned crust. They’re such a fun twist on the mooncakes I grew up with.

A little correction from this older video: I say “Chinese New Year,” but mooncakes are traditionally enjoyed for the Mid-Autumn Festival. Apparently I was already thinking about the next holiday. 😅

Want to make these? Comment “mooncake” and I’ll send you the recipe! 🥮

It’s mooncake time! 🥮🌕

Tomorrow is the Mid-Autumn Festival. It’s always celebrated on the 15th day of the eighth month of the Chinese lunar calendar. It started as a harvest celebration and now it’s a time to get together with our families, have a moon gazing party, and share mooncakes. The round shape symbolizes the full moon and togetherness.

I’m bringing back my black sesame mooncakes for the party. They have a rich, nutty filling and a soft, tender pastry. It’s always fun anticipating the moment when the mooncake comes out of the mold onto your hand and that floral pattern comes out perfect!

Their very first cooking class. 🥹

Chicco just turned 16, Miles is 13, and their mom told me before class: “Make them work.” 😂

So I did.

They took my Voyage to Asia class, which is definitely prep-intensive, and these two were absolute troopers. What I loved most was seeing Chicco’s genuine love of cooking and watching him share that with his younger cousin.

And apparently the most important lesson of the night was: dessert first. They inhaled it. 😂

I keep thinking how sweet it would be if someday they remember this as their first cooking class, and maybe even remember me as their first cooking teacher. More than anything, I hope they remember that cooking can be really, really fun. ❤️

An LA date idea that isn’t just dinner. ❤️

They were visiting from San Francisco and spent one of their LA vacation days cooking together instead of just going out to eat.

A little chopping, a little teamwork, a lot of food, and a pretty great date night.

**Bestie date, but make it delicious. 😊**

These two have been friends since they were young, so there was plenty of teasing, laughing, and cooking together while we made my Voyage to Asia menu.

Honestly, this is one of my favorite ways to spend time with someone you love: make something together, eat it together, and have a lot of fun in between. ❤️
