Good Afternoon,

The forecast for Friday remains on track for severe weather across much of Iowa. Initially, these individual storms ahead of the cold front will track toward the northeast. However, as the cold front catches up to the activity, the storm motion will shift significantly, pushing the system in a more easterly direction.

Main Threats: Damaging winds and a few tornadoes.
Secondary Threats: Large hail and localized flash flooding.

Looks like tonight is the night for portions of Central and Eastern Iowa
Yesterday a lot of amazing photos were coming through from up north

There is the potential for severe weather later today into tonight! Large hail and isolated tornadoes will be the primary threats, with damaging winds also possible. Storms are most likely after 4 pm and will develop initially in central to northeastern Iowa, moving east northeastward through the evening.

Be ready for tonight especially up north and southern Minnesota. A lot of data is suggesting very intense storms firing up just a bit later this afternoon ahead of a warm front. Just be careful if you are caught in one of these storms because some may carry hail, heavy rain, and maybe a tornado. Be weather ready

Moderate to heavy rainfall is expected to ramp up this afternoon and continue into tonight. Rainfall totals will range across the state from 0.5” to 1.5”, with locally higher amounts possible. Rainfall tonight may lead to localized small stream flooding. While the main story is rain, a few gusty storms and small hail are possible in southern Iowa later tonight. Rain showers look to taper off as we head into Friday morning.

There is potential for severe thunderstorms on Thursday afternoon and evening. Large hail, damaging winds, and a few tornadoes will all be possible. The highest threat is in the eastern half of Iowa, but severe weather may also occur in southwest Iowa before spreading east and northeastward. Be sure to have a severe weather plan, and multiple ways to receive warnings, should any be issued!
