I don’t know who needs to hear this… but this cat did not “find” that kitten.

He stole it.

For three days, our orange menace kept going outside and coming back acting suspiciously proud. Tail high. Eyes wide. Strutting like he had just closed a business deal.

We thought nothing of it.

Until this morning.

I opened the door and there he was… sitting like royalty… holding a tiny kitten in his mouth like a trophy he personally hunted in the wild suburban jungle.

Except this “jungle” is our backyard.

And that kitten?
Perfectly clean.
Clearly fed.
Very much someone’s baby.

He just stood there staring at me like,
“Look what I adopted.”

No fear. No guilt. Just vibes.

And when I tried to take the kitten, he tightened his jaw ever so slightly. Not aggressive. Just… determined.

The look in his eyes said,
“I found it. I keep it.”

I swear he looked offended that I even questioned him.

We finally tracked down the actual owner down the street. Turns out their kitten had wandered off for about 20 minutes.

Twenty.

Minutes.

Long enough for my cat to launch a full rescue operation and claim legal guardianship.

The best part?
As we handed the kitten back, he sat by the door watching… absolutely heartbroken. Betrayed. Confused. As if we’d just undone a heroic act.

Now he keeps going back outside, clearly plotting.

I don’t think he understands custody laws.

Moral of the story:
If an orange cat shows up at your door holding a kitten… just know you are witnessing a tiny, fluffy crime in progress. 🐾

I can’t stay quiet about this anymore.

There are cats out there right now with empty stomachs, infections, wounds, freezing nights, and no one coming for them. They didn’t choose this. Humans created this. And it keeps happening because we keep turning away.

Please stop buying kittens while the streets and shelters are full of lives already fighting to survive. Neuter your cats. One simple decision can stop so much suffering before it even starts.

They are not dirty. They are not ugly. They are not less worthy because they aren’t a breed. They are living beings who feel fear, hunger, pain, and love just like any pet sleeping safely at home tonight.

And if you’re thinking they’re dirty or ugly, just remember you’re here loving Sweetener today… and he was one of them when I found him.

This is not just sad. It is a problem we are choosing not to fix.

I am still working on catching this handsome boy. I have not set a trap. Just trying to friend him at this point. I will give it a little bit then will just end up trapping him if I need to. I really can’t even guess how many cats we have spayed and neutered at thi point.
