High School sophomore Ava attends her first day of online school in Coventry, Rhode Island.

I spoke with her during the few minute breaks in between classes, she was exhausted. It was towards the end of the day and she had been at her computer for around 6 hours. Remnants of meals eaten in front of her chromebook take up the remaining room on her desk. For Ava, it's been a tough adjustment returning to school online, but she is excited to start in-person learning later this week. She hasn't seen many of her friends in 7 months.

I photographed this story about Distance Learning for The 33rd Annual which took place remotely this weekend. Myself and 99 other photographers from around the world attended virtual lectures, panels, and portfolio reviews hosted by some of the most influential names in the photography industry who so generously volunteered their time to us. I am so grateful to be a part of this family, and for all of the amazing people I met this weekend. I hope one day we can all meet in person, but for now, in the words of John H. White, let us "keep in flight."

There's a certain calm between 2 and 4am, and I've been existing in that space for a while now. It's a time just before the birds wake up, and just after the noise from the highway quiets down. Feels like I'm the only one alive. Dew was just forming on the grass, deer were running through the woods, a gentle breeze carried with it the smell of honeysuckle.

Trying to work on photographing in low light, and my night-owl tenancies give the perfect opportunity.

Two photographs taken over two months apart. Same walls, same lamp, same Nepalese mask. Seems so long ago I was in quarantine after getting out of Barcelona the day they shut the city down, returning home and staying mostly within the walls of my bedroom. It felt apocalyptic.

And here I am, two months later, still looking out the same window but feeling.. comfortable? Adjusted is maybe a better word. Going out feels like less of a to-do, it's just as it was before- plus a mask and some lines on the floor, maybe ordering more things online than normal. Fine. Life goes on. The grass still needs to be cut, and it smells wonderful.

Been spending a lot of time looking at light and shadows and seeing random interactions of the two and thinking "wow that's beautiful."

I've started to take my camera everywhere, because everything happening during this time is related and all part of the same story. Whether it's the shadow of a tree on the side of a friend's house, or this stone woman with the cracked arm posing in the most dramatic light in my driveway that I've only just noticed @ New England

Self-isolation self-portrait.

A lot of other photographers and creatives have written about how they feel a pressure they need to create something amazing out of this incubation time, and I'm no different. Now that I'm not officially quarantined since returning to the US, I feel like I should be out driving around or finding some kind of amazing story to work on during this unusual time we're in. I've been meaning to go when the light's good, but the weather has been so uninspiring. Plus isn't that what everyone else is doing? What's the unique angle? I won't know unless I go see.

But as much as I want to go out, I have this opportunity to stay in and do back end work. The stuff that comes after creating that I've been putting off- captions, designing pdfs, file organization, the really boring stuff. I'll be better for it later. So make a cup of tea, throw on some lofi hiphop, and do the stuff you won't want to do when everything starts back up again.

Wanted to share a few images I took on a short COVID-related assignment for this past Saturday.

State Police and National Guard Officers were stopping people entering the state coming from New York to inform them of a 14 day quarantine. There were checkpoints at highway rest stops as well as at Westerly Station. Despite the rumors, nobody was turned away, tested, or arrested, simply advised to stay home.

Quarantine Diaries Day 9 and 10

Made a space for the Nepalese mask gifted to me back in September. Now he hangs on the wall next to Mario and a felt tapestry so generously given to me during my stay at from Helga herself. Reflecting on where I've been, people I've met, and being so thankful for everything.

Another portrait of Henry as we've been spending so much time together. Portraits of my grandparents. Starting to see all the angels in my home, they've always been here, but only now am I starting to see... @ Rhode Island

Quarantine Diaries Day 7 and 8

Photo taken just before I started my stream on , a platform I've been broadcasting on for a little over a year now, and a lot more since in quarantine. It's been amazing to connect with so many people and earn a little money through playing video games.

I left the house for the first time, granted I didn't leave the car. I was expecting everything to have changed, not in a post apocalyptic way or anything, but there were plenty of people going about their lives as usual. Maybe that's even more alarming?

View from my window, my neighbor in a florescent pink hoodie striking a pose. @ Rhode Island

Quarantine Diaries Day 5 or 6, missed two days, lost count, but these photos can speak for the missing entries as not much has changed.

My mom has an assortment of kissing balls for all seasons, but this one stays up year-round. Nobody in my family that I know of plays the violin. I've never questioned why we have one hanging on the wall, but when you don't leave the house you start seeing things you never noticed before.

Taken time to figure out how to brew the closest thing to espresso using my Aeropress. Apparently brewing upside down for 2 minutes before pressing is the method for optimal crema- thanks YouTube coffee experts!

Mostly hanging out with Henry, living life at his pace, but keeping busy with computer work, learning video editing, things are good :) @ Rhode Island

Quarantine Diaries Day 3... 4 (?)

Enjoyed the most gorgeous afternoon light with Buddha while my dad worked on some music. Unpacked my suitcase, which is normally something I would put off for as long as possible but there's not much else to do so why not?

Even if this little ongoing series isn't the most meaningful work I'll ever produce, there's something to be said for , right ? @ Rhode Island

Welcome to my room, it's not always the cleanest place, but there is a lot of myself here. Playing around with square format, practicing for a series I have in the works.

This two week quarantine could not have come at a better time for me. There's a lot I need to sort out, backlogs of work to be done. Taking this time to take a step back, regroup, and come out with clear direction, purpose, and motivation for the rest of the year. @ Rhode Island

The worlds of art and gaming come together in the Oakland Convention Center. Artist Alley vendors, whose work draws inspiration from gaming culture, sell their work at esports events all over the country. Some, like 's booth pictured here offer "money matches" where, if the customer can beat the seller in a video game, they can purchase the item they want at a discounted price, or even get something extra for free.
