Mertola has been very quiet and relaxing… i walked up to the castle, built in 1249, if i remember right, I still cant imagine how!
The coutry side is beautiful! I heard that this county/department used to have 80,000 inhabitants and now only has 6,000… is that possible? It sure is peaceful…
But kind of sad too…

On May 11th I came to Portugal, to drive around, see new landscapes, stay in hostels, walk on beaches. My plan was to drive along the coast of southern Portugal from Lisbon… things changed when I couldnt find a hostel, so I came to the interior… to the Castle town on Mertola… such a beautiful drive!! I wanted to post some pictures…

Today I’ll drive to Sagres for a few days, and get back on track …. We’ll see how it goes…. Plans and I dont always get along!
