Four years on this lawn.

Sophie’s senior sessions opened at New Albany High School, where she’s spent the last four years figuring out who she was going to be.

The main lawn, where she’s sat with the library behind her. The I Building, where she’s played violin since freshman year. The colonnade she’s walked a thousand times between buildings without noticing how familiar it had become.

These aren’t backgrounds. They’re the texture of her last year.

The campus did half the work. She did the rest.

She has one more year of mornings on this lawn. One more fall of walking the colonnade. One more spring, one more look back over her shoulder before she goes. These are the frames she’ll keep when the campus is behind her.

This is how I photograph senior girls. Where they’ve been, how they got here, and the version of themselves they’re carrying forward.

One photo rarely covers every room you walk into.

A few weeks ago I shared a company headshot built to match an existing team page, same backdrop, same formal register. What I didn’t share: in that same session, I also shot a second, more stylized version. Warmer, more personal, built for LinkedIn and speaking engagements rather than a company directory.

This is how I typically structure headshot sessions, a standard series and a stylized series, so there’s a real set to choose from for each use, not one photo stretched across every room someone walks into.

Sharon Woods in early fall turned out to be the right call for Cayden's senior session. Cayden is Class of 2026 at Watkins Memorial. I moved him between the wooded trail and the dock along the water, working with the turning leaves and the late afternoon light for most of the afternoon. A couple of outfit changes later, the set covers both ends of what Sharon Woods offers.

Some of the frames I love most are the ones we didn’t plan.

Diana, Columbus Academy Class of 2022, at Bicentennial Park. We had a plan: the skyline, the bridges, the river and a stone wall. Then came a sweater change, and a scooter ride that was never on the list.

That’s how I like senior sessions to feel. We plan the places and leave room for the moments.

At eighteen months, Ellie set the pace.

Hayden Falls is one of her parents' favorite places, and this was her first time seeing it. She ran the boardwalk and stood on her tiptoes to reach the love locks. When a couple walking their dog stopped to hand her a pink flower, she pressed it to her mom's cheek. Pooh came too. He was the theme of her nursery when she was a newborn, and he's still her favorite.

Eighteen months is the in-between. Not a baby anymore, not quite a little girl, and changing month to month.

There's a particular wince that happens when you send someone your website link. You know the work is good. You also know the photo on your About page is from three years and one whole business ago.

That gap is what my branding sessions are for. Before we ever shoot, we talk through your business, the clients you want, and where the images will actually live: your website, LinkedIn, proposals, a speaking bio. Then we make images that look like you, working at the level you're working at now.

His first weeks, at home.

The last time I photographed Leslie, she was 28 weeks along in the grove at Franklin Park. His newborn chapter came in two visits: portraits in my studio a few days after he was born, where their wedding rings slipped onto his tiny toes, and a quiet morning in the nursery with Tucker the golden doodle close by.

The Collective follows a family from pregnancy through baby's first birthday, four sessions telling one story. Coming back to a family you already know is its own kind of gift. We just pick up where we left off and write the best chapters as they come.

She sat beside a river in the middle of Ohio and drew jellyfish.

That's Gillian. She's an artist, and her sketchbook came with her to Highbanks Metro Park. Partway through her session, I asked her to settle onto a fallen log by the water and draw. I wanted the details: her hands on the page, the pencil moving. I got more than that. As soon as she started sketching, she forgot about the camera, and everything after that looked like her. Even her jeans were covered in line drawings.

We followed golden hour from the water's edge to a field of goldenrod just coming into full color, where she changed into white for the last light of the evening. Three looks, one park, and a set of portraits that feel like a page from her own sketchbook.

Licking Heights High School. Class of 2025. Still one of the Highbanks sessions I come back to most.

Every October, central Ohio gets a short window where the trees turn and the late afternoon light goes warm and low. My fall minis are planned around it. Inniswood Gardens on Saturday, October 24, and Rocky Fork Metro Park on Sunday, October 25. Twenty-five minutes, outdoors, with the kind of light that makes the whole family look like themselves on a good day.
