She does not know yet that this moment … right here, in the tall grass, her little one’s face pressed against her shoulder is the one she will reach for when she needs to remember.

But she will. ✨

Happy Mother’s Day to every mother who has held on just like this.

To every family who has trusted me with their story, thank you. Today I am thinking of each of you.

Vicki ❤️

Some places don't wait for you to notice them. They just stop you.

Spent today in Gambier scouting Kenyon College ahead of a senior session in May. I wasn't prepared for how much it would.

The Church of the Holy Spirit. The stained glass in the Ascension. Five angel musicians watching over the path between. Richard Serra's Pivot, shot from the ground, sky framed inside steel. Everything here seems to reach toward something. Vivian Suter's unstretched canvases and Sofía Táboas's quiet, perceptual installations filling the Gund Gallery. The Middle Path connecting all of it.

There is something about a place that has been tended with patience and care over a long time. A legacy built quietly, generously, attentive to every detail. The kind of contribution that doesn't announce itself. It just endures.

In May I'll be back with a senior who is a film student, someone already attuned to light and story and the way a frame can hold a moment. This campus is going to meet him exactly where he is.

Scouting is where a session really begins for me. Before the camera comes out, before the client arrives. Just me, a place, and the question of where the light will be.

Today the place answered before I finished asking.

More from this one in May.

We were in the middle of the session when she stopped.

Hands clasped to her chest. One foot lifted off the ground. Eyes completely fixed on something in the field ahead of her.

A butterfly. And she was not going to miss a single second of it.

That quality of wonder. The way a child can be utterly absorbed by something small and perfect and alive is something worth holding onto. It's unguarded. Unhurried. Completely real. And when you catch it in a photograph, it stops you. Every time.

Her brother saw her face, found what she was looking at, and pointed the way little brothers do, like he was the one who discovered it. She didn't look up. She was already somewhere else entirely.

Six frames. Rocky Fork, New Albany.

Spring family sessions are open. Reach out if you'd like to get on the calendar.

I've been a little quiet on here — intentionally.

I've been building. A new website, a clearer direction, and a body of work that finally feels completely like mine. It's getting there and I'm looking forward to sharing it.

In the meantime, I'm here and I'm booking spring sessions — families, milestones, first birthdays, and seniors for the class of 2027.

If you've been thinking about reaching out, now is a great time. More coming soon.

Keep it Simple.

That's what I tell every family about the cake before the session.

White, cream, or soft blush buttercream. Nothing that stains. Nothing that competes with the baby's face.

This one was a smooth iced cake with white rosettes from Sweet Batter Bakery. It was almost too beautiful to touch.

Ellie agreed. She considered it very carefully before committing. 🎂

Cake smash sessions open for spring, reach out if your little one has a first birthday coming up. These moments are just too precious to miss out on documenting
them.

Today is my mom's birthday. And I want to try to put into words what she is to me — knowing I won't quite get there.

She is the heart and soul of who I am. My biggest cheerleader. The woman who has loved my family more than herself for as long as I can remember and would do absolutely anything for us without a second thought.

The kind of love that never wavers. The kind that shows up every single time, no matter what. That is who she is. And because of that, I know how to love my people through everything too.

My sister and I grew up four and a half years apart — and as we've gotten older, we've grown closer in the way that only happens when you both start to understand how much family is everything. I think we learned that from her.

My husband stepped behind my camera — the one I usually hide behind — so the three of us could just be together in front of it. A mother. Her two daughters. Generations of everything she poured into us.

Because one day this version of us will only exist in these images. And I want to hold onto every single moment of it — so they're going on my walls, on my bookshelves, where I'll walk past them every day and feel all of this again.

I've been thinking about what to call this kind of session. The Legacy Portrait. Because that's what it is — a record of what gets passed down. The love, the strength, the resilience. A pocket of it to hold always.

Happy birthday, Mom. You are everything. ❤🎂

If this made you think of your own mother, your own sister, your own daughter — reach out. I would be honored to create something like this for your family.

To the junior year parents — this one is for you.

Senior portrait season fills earlier than most families expect. Late summer and fall dates go quickly, and the best sessions start with a planning conversation in spring.

I'm now booking senior portraits for the class of 2027. A limited number of spots, a personal conversation first, and an experience designed around who your senior actually is — not a cookie cutter session.

If you've been thinking about it, reach out now. I'd love to talk.

The space you walk into sets the tone for everything. When I'm planning a session, the space matters as much as the lighting.

The Barn at Be Changed Studio in Westerville is a multi level loft with a number of completely different setups under one roof. A daybed, a white fluffy bench in front of flowing translucent drapes, a pure white (or pop color) backdrop for cake smashes. And for spring, the most beautiful seasonal design: soft sage green throughout with vibrant pops of florals in pinks, yellows, and lavender. Light, airy, completely fresh.

The seasonal setups change, so if a spring session has been on your mind there’s a natural reason to book now while this one is live.

I handle the studio booking details so families just show up. No logistics, no coordination. Just walk in, be present, and let the morning unfold.

That’s exactly how it should feel. Because the best images don’t come from a rushed hour. They come from a family that forgot the camera was there.

There is a frame from this session I keep coming back to.

Mom pulls Ellie in close and gives her a kiss. And Ellie — one year old, flower crown on — turns her head and looks right at the camera with this soft, knowing smile. Like she already understands exactly how loved she is.

That completely unguarded joy. The smile that starts behind the eyes. It was in every single frame.

And dad was fully, helplessly devoted from start to finish, making her laugh, flying her through the air, stopping just to look at her the way smitten fathers do.

First birthday portrait sessions are open for spring. If your family has a milestone coming up that deserves to be documented this beautifully — reach out. I'd love to meet you.
