When you have a ton of yarn (inherited from my momma) and don't knit or crochet... you make a headband and earrings! Why not?! Lilly was up for it all in our session and I am thrilled with each and every image we made. 🧶😍

It was so much fun coming up with unique ideas for Lilly's passion project session. She brought a ridiculous amount of yarn in all shapes and sizes, and this concept came to life perfectly - especially with those amazing expressions! I love to photograph Lilly.

When Lilly told me she wanted to hilight her passion for crocheting... I was downright giddy. We had SO MUCH FUN creating this group of images, and it was truly a group effort. Lilly got to work on crocheting the heart, while her mom and I rolled (and rolled and rolled) balls of yarn. Her momma is a talented photographer herself, and when Lilly was just a little girl she created an image in which she shaped her hair into hearts similar to what we did here, so it just felt right to recreate it. The "mess" shot was simply based on reality lol. We even incorporated some of her crochet projects in some of the images. Stay tuned for a couple more concepts with Lilly... we may have gone overboard with our creativity. 🧶❤

Charlie, Springfield-Clark Career Technology Center Class of 2026. We met up in German Village for a great session on a glorious sunny day! Winding down to graduation - can't believe it's so close! Happy to have just a few more sessions with this fantastic class of amazing students.

Final couple of images of Savannah with her color guard ensemble. I used a special filter that created this cool blur effect. It's those little details that can elevate the photos; happy to have the time to experiment with it a little!

Color guard is known as the "Sport of the Arts," and the outfit and equipment certainly lend themselves to some beautiful artistic images. Savannah was happy to have this color guard uniform to wear for her session - it was so cool!

The "Passion Project" sessions continue, with Savannah highlighting her passion, color guard. I started out with some of the same light painting techniques and LOVE the effect it had with the flag and rifle. I can see so many future uses for this!! It's a bit of a tricky process involving strobes, fiber optic tools and a long exposure - and I'm totally geeking out over figuring it out!! :) This is the fun of working with my model team; we get to try new things out together. Hope Savannah likes them as much as I do!

The final techique I tried was "light painting." This took a lot of practice but I got it down and now I'm OBSESSED. I love thw way the light looks like fire in this image. This technique invoves very long exposres (as long as 20 seconds in this case), and Luke was here for it! He was so patieint and did such a great job - his job was to stand absolutely still. My wheels are turning for all sorts of applications of this technique!

In this shot I was able to use a few other fun tools to give a very edgy look. I don't use gels (the colored light) very often but when I do I'm always surprised at how it can enhance an image. I also used a tool called the optical spot. It allowed get that strip of light down the front of his face. It looked perfect with that intense game face he has!

Let's start right in with some creative sessions! Luke participated in the "Passion Project" session - where seniors let me know what they're most passionate about, and we worked together to create a unique session incorporating that passion. Luke's life is CONSUMED with lacrosse. Good thing he loves it! We did a vairiety of shots hilighting his favorite sport. In a few of them I got to use my Smoke Ninja, which is always fun. Stay tuned for some new techniques!!
