Traditional gardens in Japan = ā€œIkeiā€ - an intense kind of awe that’s impossible to put into words (but I’ll try šŸ˜‰ā€¦)

Wandering through a landscape that feels completely natural, but has A LOT of secret intention behind it.

I love that the gardens don’t try to force nature into perfect geometric shapes. The paths, the trees, the rocks - they’re all laid out to guide you peacefully through. It just flows. Every time you turn a corner, the view changes.

I kept wanting to stop longer - by the water, watching reflections shift and disappear before repeating. The light, the colors, the shapes of the branches - nothing stayed still.

It left with me a deep respect, the Japanese call it - ikei.

What was it about the torii gates?

I can’t quite put it into words.

Maybe it is the simple form.
Maybe because it marks the space between everyday life and something more sacred.
Maybe it’s the uniqueness - the textures, colors and details

Whatever it is, I never stopped noticing them.

More memories from Japan.

Not ā€œwrong turnā€ lost - more like I have NO idea where we are compared to where we want to be 😬. Lights and people were everywhere and somehow Google Maps was not helping.

Add in the language barrier and it made everything in this HUGE city a little more interesting.

We finally found Golden G*i - tiny alleys, lanterns everywhere, bars the size of closets. People literally packed in.

Despite the crowds it somehow stopped feeling overwhelming. We ducked into a bar, connected in the moment - with the people, the culture - and found our special place in the middle of it allšŸ’•.

Mount Fuji...

Part revealed, part hidden. Usually a little shy like that.

I went in wanting the perfect photo, but what stayed with me was the journey. We spent the day dodging the rain and chasing glimpses of it.

In the end, I got this shot. But it was the day of finding it that stayed with me.

Everything draws your eyes to the details.

Nothing feels accidental—the colors, the wood, the fabrics, the fine metals.

Incense drifting through the air, pulling at your senses.

The slow rhythm of the drums

People moving with quiet, unspoken respect.

I’m not part of their belief, but I kept pausing anyway—pulled in by it the details.

Nighttime in Tokyo was amazing.

But… I’ll take the port arrivals every time.

Early mornings—watching sleepy cities slowly come into view as the day begins to wake.

Many people miss it. I’m not really an early morning person, but I'm awake with coffee in hand for this!

Japan, April 2026

I thought I’d come home talking about the different cities, castles, and food.

Instead… I keep thinking about my shoes.

Taking them off, putting them back on—over and over each day. At temples, restaurants, even places I didn’t expect.

Such a small thing, but it kept reminding me I was somewhere completely different.

A quiet respect. A shared understanding of care and cleanliness—unspoken, but everywhere in this beautiful country.

Almost didn’t post this - perfectionism getting the best of me 😜.

Sans Se Festival celebrates the end of the Christmas season. It was the most colorful, energetic, and unique street party I’ve ever attended. Loved capturing the faces of everyone around me—so much better in real life than my photo shows.

Motivation to keep practicing.

Ireland was a trip of many firsts.....First hike in the pouring rain and it turned out to be one of my favorites.

Even back at home, we've gotten better at not letting it rain on our plans—it’s easier to just throw on the rain pantspants🤣
