A photo session doesn’t have to be a whole production.

Sometimes it’s just a trip to the park, letting the kids have fun, letting you guys hang out together, and me following along with a camera.

No elaborate setup. No perfectly posed family portrait for an hour. Just time together and photographs of what that actually looks like.

One of the things I love about an elopement is having time to actually slow down.

This couple had a private ceremony and an extended photo session, just the two of them and a little time to breathe before celebrating with everyone else later.

There’s something really special about that kind of space. No rushing through a handful of portraits before the next thing on the timeline. No crowd waiting for you to finish. Just time to wander around, laugh, hold each other, and let the photographs happen naturally.

The big celebration can come later. Sometimes you just need a little time for the two of you first.

One of my favorite parts of a wedding day is the couple’s portraits.

There usually isn’t a ton of time for them, but it’s worth carving out a little space to step away from everything else for a few minutes. No guests, no timeline, no one needing anything from you. Just the two of you, taking a breath and actually getting to be together for a minute.

These are the photographs you’ll have long after the flowers are gone, the cake is eaten, and the day itself becomes a story you tell.

Your bridal portraits don’t have to be just about the bride.

If there are a few people who are especially important to you, this can be a really sweet time to include them. The little ones who might otherwise get swept up in the chaos of the wedding day, or a grandmother who means the world to you.

You don’t have to turn your bridal session into a family portrait session. Just make a little room for the people you want beside you in this moment.

Some photographs become more meaningful with time.

Years after I photographed this couple, I had another session with her. She told me these were some of her most cherished photographs because they captured something she wanted to hold onto: the love they shared.

There’s something extraordinary about photographs that let us see a love that has lasted. Not as a promise that everyone gets the same story, but as a glimpse of what’s possible.
