Man today was a BLAST. For real.

Some folks are just magnetic. CeCe is one of them.

A former Paralympic javelin thrower and MULTIPLE medal winner, CeCe was just an absolute pleasure to film and work with. And hang with. And maybe take a couple of shots of whiskey with.

Whatever dude. It’s her house.

A freakin’ blast.

Thanks to the Richland County School District 2 PAC for lending us your lobby 💪🏻 It’s gorgeous.

Our collaboration with Flock and Rally and Riverbanks Zoo and Garden brought home a GOLD Regional ADDY award this year for Wild Lights!

This project took roughly a month of hours long meetings at 8am and 8pm, thousands of Discord messages, and painful rendering processes (and re-rendering — IYKYK right?)

Here are some of our frames with some images showing the humble beginnings. Massive appreciation to animators and VFX artists who do this full-time!

I wonder what our next animation will be? 💪🏻 Lookong forward to it!

Scenes from a commercial shoot

Win the bid, write the creative, plan the shoot, assemble the team, plan some more, setup, load in, shoot for days, tear down, upload footage, assemble edits, color and sound, deliver.

Big things coming. Stay tuned!

My grandfather used to say most jobs were “better than digging a ditch”. This was, I gather, his way of saying “at least it’s not manual labor”.

Videography/filmmaking? It is.

It’s planning and prep.
It’s loading and unloading hundreds of times every year.
It’s problem solving, almost literally, at each location.

It’s much closer to manual labor than any job I’ve ever had, really (except you, Ace Hardware 🫵🏻❤️).

I love it. WE love it. Hard times and all.
After all, how hard can it be? We aren’t “digging a ditch” or anything. 🫠

These photos may not do it justice (these are our DITCH faces), but we are always smiling and keeping it light.

The main folks who are (almost) always there in one way or another:
mclaxon
Jami Wiseman
Gil (lol where are you dude)
Adrian
Catherine Hunsinger
Gavin James
Zach McKinley (also 📸 cred)

It’s been a minute since I’ve posted any images. I’ve been busy enough that it’s hard to find time to do anything else!

this week we spent some time with our friends up in the Piedmont and Greenville area, capturing some warehouse images for a Advanced Packaging

we may have done some teambuilding over sushi and saki, as well. 🙌🏻

I may have been quiet, but it’s not for a lack of doing the work.

Exciting times ahead!

Oh - I’ve been working really hard on color and grading using Adobe Premiere Pro, and I’m super excited about exploring that further. What an amazing jump (try the Beta)

Onwards and upwards

🤘🏻The faces of a good time 🤘🏻

Sure, we do our best to make great videos and films for our clients. I’ve said from day one that we would have one thing that separates us from the others:

We are going to have a good time.

“It’s not digging a ditch.”

Good, hard work doesn’t have to suck, and attitudes don’t have to suck either. In fact, I would argue better work comes from a better attitude.

Maybe I’m wrong about that.
Doesn’t matter.

We’re still going to have a good time. 🤷🏼‍♂️

BTS from day 3 of our shoot with and

10 hours may sound like a lot of time. But four complete location changes (called company moves) eats time, and setups do too.

Some rough math:
-15-30 minutes of travel x3
-30-60 minutes of lighting x4
-15-30 minutes of tear down x4
= less than an hour to film each location

This doesn’t even factor in that some locations have multiple setups 🫠

The approach: use available light, match the color, and key the subject FIRST. Then, if time allows, do the extras.

This was a fun day with

Sometimes you just need a gigantic bounce card

“What does that mean, Jonathan?”
I’ll tell you!

Bouncing is when you reflect light. And since the sun is our greatest light source, realistic outdoor lighting that looks GREAT sometimes only requires a bit of bounce to fill in shadows and “help” the sun.

This is from our FINAL pickup shoot with and

Now the editing marathon begins 🙌🏻
I can’t wait for you all to see this stuff!

Mo’ cats mo’ problems, right? 😅

A cat appeared in our home the other day (ahem.) and suddenly things are more interesting. Again.

Maybe I should start documenting more of this animal house.

I need my studio internet back up and running — stat.
