This past weekend, as the venerable monks walking for peace passed through Columbia, I was eager to see them. When I arrived at the State House, the crowd had already grown into the thousands, and—being vertically challenged—I couldn’t help but laugh at myself for not getting there earlier to stake out a good spot.
Before they departed, I sat on the State House steps next to a woman who had brought her 9-year-old son. She told me he didn’t really understand why they were there, but she wanted him to witness it anyway. We talked about how one day he might look back and remember that he was present for this — that he was part of it.
It felt like we were witnessing a quietly profound moment in history.
In a time when America feels deeply turbulent, and the daily news is filled with caustic stories that make you question our humanity, a group of monks — accompanied by their rescue dog, Aloka — are simply walking for peace. They ask for nothing. There is no spectacle planned for their arrival in Washington, DC, only a quiet, peaceful moment. And yet, like a ripple in water, their presence softens outward, reverberating through everyone who witnesses it — in person or through their social streams. The feeling is palpable, and we can only hope that these ripples might soften the discord of these times.

Reflecting on a year of meaningful work.

Last year was full of stories I’m incredibly grateful to have helped tell through brand video, brand photography, documentary-style storytelling, social content, healthcare marketing, and event promotion.

I had the opportunity to collaborate with teams at Aha Media Group, UNUM, CHI Design Indigo, the South Carolina Department of Environmental Services, Doctors Hospital, Memorial Health, AARP, Agriwellness (with Chernoff Newman), First Palmetto Bank, and the Carolinas Healthcare PR & Marketing Society, along with families and graduating seniors.

From residency recruitment videos and advocacy campaigns, to corporate headshots, conference promotion, educational content, and brand photography, every project was a reminder of why I started this business in the first place: to help people and organizations tell their stories in a way that feels honest, human, and true to who they are.

As I move into my 19th year in business, I’m grateful for the trust behind every project. Grateful for the stories we’ve shared — and excited for the ones still to come.
