MONOCHROME MONDAY!!!

Here are a couple of fine art portraits that I did a couple of years ago. I love the opportunity to capture something a little different.

Hope you like!

Here a few quiet moments with a bear in creek in South Lake Tahoe. Miss watching this amazing creature.

I've been going through a lot of black and white infrared images recently. Here's a recap of what's been going on.

FORGOTTEN FRAME FRIDAY

Some photographs remember more than the moment they were taken.

This old barn was photographed in Wisconsin in the mid 1990's. A few years later, after skipping states, it became the very first photograph I printed in a darkroom in California. (printed on Ilford multigrade fiber paper)

Nearly thirty years later, I still wonder about that barn. Is it still standing? Are those weathered boards still holding against the Wisconsin winters - or has it finally surrendered to time?

And somehow, this forgotten frame has become the first page of a photographic journey that is still unfolding.

WATER WEDNESDAY!!!

Nevada Falls drops 594 feet through Yosemite, the Merced River throwing itself over ancient granite with a force that has been shaping this landscape for thousands of years.

And at the bottom, where water becomes mist, light finds its way through. A rainbow hangs in the spray. The waterfall rumbles on.

TUESDAY'S ARCHITECTURE

The Desert View Watchtower stands at the edge of the South Rim of the Grand Canyon. For these photographs I knew I had to wait for the stars to come out and put my flashlight to work.

Fire. Water. A brief truce between opposites.

THROUGH THE LENS THURSDAY!!!

This bass guitar detail was created with nothing more than darkness, a camera, a tripod and carefully controlled light. Light painting isn't about simply shining a light on something - it's about building the photography one piece at a time, deciding exactly where the light exists... and where it doesn't.

This reel shows what happened behind creating the final image.

TUESDAY’S ARCHITECTURE— The Film Era

Before pixels, there was chemistry, darkness, and a whole lot of patience.

These two photographs take me back to my days as Studio Manager at Foothill College, documenting the darkroom and finishing room—spaces built around the craft of making photographs by hand.

Funny how much photography has changed over the decades. The rooms are gone, the process has evolved, but the pursuit of making a great image remains.
